About 16,000 policemen have been deployed by the Delta State Police Command to provide security for today’s governorship election in the state.
The command however warned its officers and men against aiding and abetting desperate politicians in committing electoral fraud.
The command also warned politicians to conduct their affairs with honour to avoid being embarrassed and arrested for electoral malpractices.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu on Friday said nobody would be treated as sacred cow.
According to her, the law was clear about what was obtainable before, during and after general elections.
“We have prepared over 16,000 men for the exercise. As I speak to you, they are good to go. No stone will be left unturned in our quest for a free, fair and credible election. We have warned our men not to aid any politician during the exercise but provide security for its smooth conduct.
“Any one found on Saturday breaching the electoral law will be treated as a fugitive. Any policeman caught in any fraudulent act will also be dismissed. So politicians should caution their supporters to behave themselves”, she warned.
Kalu lauded the peaceful manner the governorship candidates in the state had been violent-free.

“We want to thank the gubernatorial candidates here for their peaceful campaign so far. They have campaigned in a manner that is civilised. Supporters are allowed into all areas to campaign. I want to appeal that they maintain the peace”, she said.
