Smart Card Reader
Six thousand and fifty candidates are contesting the governorship and House of Assembly elections across the country scheduled for Saturday, 11th April 2015.
Of this number, 760 candidates are vying for the position of governor while 5,290 are contesting for the state Houses of Assembly.
The governorship election is taking place in 29 states of the federation. They are: Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Enugu, Gombe, Imo , Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kwara, Kogi, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Osun, Oyo,Rivers, Sokoto and ZamfaraThe states where governorship elections will not be taking place on the 11th of April are:Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti Kogi and FCT
Ahead of Saturday's elections, the Commission had taken measures to address the challenges of late arrival of materials and men at some Polling Units across the country and the seeming lack of proficiency in the use of the Smart Card Reader (SCR) by some ad-hoc staff, which bedevilled the Presidential and National Assembly Elections.
The Commission firmed up its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). It also retrained its ad-hoc staff who would administer the Smart Card Reader.
”Also in several layers of briefings ahead of tomorrow’s elections, staff - permanent and ad-hoc - were exhorted to step up their communications and to take advantage of the hotlines of the INEC Citizens Contact Centre. They are: 09050858629, 09050858675, 09050859649, 08180958715, 08180958717, 08180958709, 09025038466, 07086945927, 08120183063, 07062896047, 08105119010, 08146697603, 07098115257, 07098117563, 07098110916, 07098116381.
INEC said that its Citizens Contact Centre can also be reached on different social media platforms such as: Facebook:www.facebook.com/inecnigeria, Twitter: www.twitter.com/inecnigeria, email: iccc@inec.gov.ng, website:www.inecnigeria.org, Instagram:@inecnigeria.
It further said that Robust Technical Support Teams of the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) department will be deployed to trouble shoot and fix Smart Card Readers where they fail to work.
