Woman Kills Church Member With Her Car While Answering Phone Call In Isolo (Read Details)

A Nigerian woman by name Mrs. Obiageli Ezeanowiyi is in serious trouble after she reportedly killed her fellow church member in an accident while she was allegedly driving and receiving phone call. < p style=”margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Georgia, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;”>According to PM Express, Ezeanowiyi lost control of the car and killed the victim known as Madam Chichi on their way to church. The tragic incident took place at Jakande Estate junction at Okeafa, Isolo close to St. Peters Catholic Church where both were members and belonged to the Adoration Ministry organised by a popular Catholic priest. < p style=”margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Georgia, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;”>The suspect has been arrested and detained at the police station and she is now facing murder charge because of the manner the accident happened. < p style=”margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Georgia, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;”>It was gathered that the late Madam Chichi who ran a popular joint and lived at Isolo, was going for Sunday adoration service before the incident happened. The deceased was said to have got to Jakande junction and was trying to get another tricycle that will take her to the church. < p style=”margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Georgia, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;”>However, while she was still standing at the bus stop, Mrs. Obiageli who was driving her Nissan Pathfinder SUV ran into her and killed her instantly. < p style=”margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Georgia, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;”>Eyewitnesses at the scene of the incident alleged that Mrs. Obiageli was answering phone call while driving which made her to lose control and hit the woman while driving to the church. < p style=”margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Georgia, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;”>Meanwhile, her corpse has been taken to Isolo mortuary for autopsy report while Obiageli reported herself to the police who detained her at the police station. How local government autonomy will negatively affect education – NUT

The Chairman of the Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Amudah Wakeel, has kicked against the clamour for Local Government autonomy. According to him, granting autonomy to local government councils will cripple primary education in the country. He said this in an interview with newsmen, on the sidelines of a protest staged by teachers at the State House of Assembly complex in Osogbo, the state capital. Wakeel warned that teachers’ salaries would begin to suffer as soon as local government councils became autonomous because the councils lacked the financial capacity to fund primary education. The NUT chairman also proposed that budgetary allocations to states from the federation account should be reviewed upward in favour of the states in order to guarantee uninterrupted primary education in the country. In the alternative, he said, the salaries of primary school teachers should be paid through the Universal Basic Education Commission from the first line charge from the Federation Account. He said: “From experience, it is clear that local government councils neither have the financial capacity nor the political will to fund and manage primary schools in the country; therefore, any attempt made to handover primary education to local governments amounts to consigning primary education to the abyss of total collapse. “It has been observed that primary school teachers are being owed salaries for several months in a number of states ostensibly due to the inability of the councils to provide the fund needed for payment of the salaries, thereby creating situation of demoralisation and hopelessness amongst the teachers. “This unwholesome development, which is not likely to abate soon, portends danger for public primary education and the future of the mass underprivileged children in the country.”
