Vice President Osinbajo Reveals Why Nigerians Have Accepted Corruption As Way Of Life

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has lamented the high rate of corruption on the country, saying Nigerians had accepted the menace as a way of life. Osinbajo said this at the Re-launch of THESEABILITIES Foundation and public presentation of 2016 Disability Report on Inclusion in Lagos, on Saturday. The Vice President also expressed displeasure over the way corrupt people were allowed to get away with their action in the country. Stating that the poverty level in Nigeria was the result of high level of corruption, Osinbajo said it was disheartening to see Nigerians accept the menace as way of life and go a step further to celebrate corrupt people. He said, “The reason corruption is so prominent in our society is because we accept it as a way of life, celebrate it and allow it to thrive. “With this kind of attitude, we can not take our rightful place in comity of nations because it is the major reason for poverty in our society. “We have capacity to fight it but if that capacity is privatized and some people take it away and use it for themselves we can not make progress.”

“It Is A Useless Statement” – Cardinal Okogie Blast Pastor Adeboye Over Church Expansion (See Details)

Cardinal Anthony Okogie, Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos has verbally knifed the presiding pastor of the Redeemed Christian church of God, Enoch Adeboye over his plan to have as many church branches as possible. According to reports, Okogie criticized Adeboye’s move saying that the branches were ‘mere business centres’ as there was nothing Godly as having churches in close proximity. He told New telegraph; “In order to bring us together and to get sanity back into this country, the fear of God must be number one. Nigerians of today don’t care a hoot about God.For example, I heard that one of my colleagues, (Pastor Enoch) Adeboye, said that he would love to build churches everywhere so as to make it easy for worshipers to walk to them. But for me, that is a useless statement. How can you say you will build churches everywhere? What kind of churches are you talking about? Look at traffic in Lagos for example, and those who are pastors are traders and a good number of them are businessmen. Such churches in most cases are more like business houses! Look at the number of churches springing up in Lagos. If the Muslims start building mosques like that, does it show that Nigeria is a religious country? Every day we hear of killings and other things that we were not hearing before. We can’t even walk on the streets freely. You have to be watching yourself left, right and centre to know who the man coming behind you is. It wasn’t like that before. Churches must ensure that there is fear of God.And I’m just telling you that those churches that he is talking about are just business centres.”

Justice John Tsoho will on Thursday, October 12th hear an application seeking the arrest and repatriation of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu from the United Kingdom. Joined in the case with the suit is the British High Commission, the Comptroller of the Nigerian Immigration Service and the Attorney-general of the Federation. The plaintiff is also seeking the arrest of the lawmaker representing Kanu’s Senatorial District, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and other co-sureties for his bail, if the IPOB leader fails to appear in court on the next adjourned date of October 17th, 2017.

‘Davido Has Not Reached Out to Anyone in my Family; Tagbo’s Autopsy Out on Monday’ – Sister

One of the tragic news that hit the net this week, was the death of Tagbo Umeike a friend of Nigerian popstar, Davido. Tagbo was alleged to have died after drinking several shots of tequila during a night out with friends in Lagos. However, Tagbo’s friend and actress, Caroline Danjuma, accused Davido and his team of dumping Tagbo’s body at a general hospital in Lagos Island and fled. In the wake of several conflicting reports on the incident, Sunday Scoop spoke exclusively with Tagbo’s immediate elder sister, Equi Arakada, who is based in the United Kingdom. She was badly shaken and it was clear to see that the sad incident was causing her great grief. “I am a year older than he was, and October 3 was supposed to be his 35th birthday. They’re trying to portray him as a drunk or useless person, and that’s not true. There’s more to social media than what we see on the screen. He was not married and he didn’t have any kids. He was an engineer but he was trying to diversify into the music business. Not as a musician, but maybe as a record label owner,” she said. Continuing, she said, “He could upload some pictures of himself hanging out with his friends, but that does not mean that he doesn’t have anything else he does with his life. He was a very caring and outgoing person, and he had a great future ahead of him. I would definitely not wish what we, his loved ones, are going through right now on anybody. Nobody deserves to die the way he did; abandoned at a time he needed help the most. Nobody deserves the nonchalance that the parties involved are displaying. It’s really unfair. Our dad is late, and my mum is taking this one day at a time. Davido has not reached out to anyone in my family; not me, my mum, or Tagbo’s brother. I only knew about my brother’s friendship with Davido through social media; I had never met him. But they’ve been friends for some time now because I often see pictures of them together. I’m not really familiar with many of the artistes in Nigeria, but I know that on the night of the incident, Tagbo was with Davido and Dammy Krane. Right now, we’re trying to gather as much information as possible to aid the investigation. All we need is justice; we don’t need any financial gain from this sad incident. We would dig to the root of the matter and find out if it was the negligence of anybody that led to this, or there was any sort of tampering involved. The autopsy would be conducted on Monday; any contrary news is false.” However, Davido and his team have refused to make any comment on the matter. When Sunday Scoop put a call through to Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, he said, “We don’t have any comment on this matter; there is nothing to say.” Meanwhile, the police have also confirmed that the autopsy would be carried out on Monday.

Alex Iwobi takes Nigeria to Russia

Arsenal midfielder, Alex Iwobi proved himself a super substitute for Nigeria on Saturday when he scored the decisive goal needed to take the African football giant to the Russian World Cup. Nigeria needed a victory, no matter the margin, against visitors Chipolopolo of Zambia and Iwobi made the 1-0 victory possible. Iwobi came in the 67th minute and seven minutes after, he utilised a cross by a team mate after a pass by Victor Moses to score for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, thus dashing Zambia’s hopes of upsetting the Eagles. The Arsenal player also scored in the first Group B game between the sides Nigeria now have 13 points in Group B, followed by Zambia with 7 points. Cameroon have six points. Nigeria’s final match in November against Algeria will now be a mere formality as Iwobi’s goal has booked a place for the Super Eagles next year in Russia. Nigeria have now become the first African side to book their place at 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia. It would be the Eagles sixth appearance at the FIFA World Cup.

‘I Used To Be Rich But Politics Turned Me Into A Poor Man’ – Peter Obi

Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has said that venturing into politics made him a poorer man in terms of finance. Obi stated this in reaction to allegations against him by oil magnate, Ifeanyi Ubah, who claimed that he demanded N7 billion from governor Willie Obiano. In a chat with Vanguard, the ex-governor said: “You could even sense it yourself that it is sheer blackmail. I am a Christian and I am not supposed to swear, but I can put my hand on any form of ecclesiastically prescribed oath and say that I have never discussed with anybody to be paid any amount. I have never done that and I will never do that. “At this stage of my life, I cannot support anybody for political and personal benefits. I have passed that stage and to do so is to abuse the Grace of God in my life. I did not go into politics wretched; I was already a director in three financial institutions, a director in four other major companies; all by the virtue of my investments. I was also running a successful family business. “Going into politics even made me poorer but I won’t question anything because that is where God wants me to be. The joy of rendering fruitful service to the people cannot be quantified in naira and kobo. For me, all I want is for us to have a better society; caring for the poor and the people. “Ordinarily, I don’t react to comments people make, especially those made out of ulterior motives. I do not return evil for evil, rather I will cling to my rosary, praying for God’s love on all of us. “Having asked the question, let me tell you about an encounter I recently had. About two weeks ago, two persons came to me and said that they just came out of a meeting where it was discussed that for the upcoming elections in Anambra State, they will come out aggressively to attack my integrity and make it impossible for me to campaign for the candidate of my party. And I asked them how it would happen. “They said they didn’t know but they had what it takes to bring people to the media to shred my character before Nigerians through blackmail and lies. I thanked them and said that when they come, we will see it. “After a week, I started hearing on local radio in Anambra State, people being put on radio owned by the state government to call me names and associate my name with things I do not even dream of doing in my sleep.”
