1 shot dead in Osun rival cult clash

Members of a cult group on Sunday killed a member of a rival cult group, Hammed Tomori-Olugbodi in Osogbo, Osun State. Daily Trust gathered that the cultists trailed the deceased to a football pitch at BCGA area, near the Old Garage and shot him in his abdomen. It was gathered that the deceased was killed in revenge for the killing of a member of the other group. The deceased was standing trial in a court in Osogbo over a murder case and he was remanded in court few weeks ago and later granted bail. At the time of filing these reports, the cultists were on rampage in Osogbo as they were said to be hunting other members of Olugbodi’s camp. The commissioner of Police in the state, Fimihan Adeoye, confirmed the incident and assured that the situation is under control. Meanwhile, a top security personnel in the state who spoke on condition of anonymity expressed worry over the way the court was granting bail to the cultists when arrested and arraigned. He said, “The court is not helping us. We will risk our lives to arrest those criminals and arraign them but the court will just release them on bail. The boy that was killed today was arraigned in court recently over murder and remanded in prison. Few weeks later, the court granted him bail and trouble started again which led to his death eventually.”

2019 Election: Governors, Ministers want Buhari to contest —El-Rufai

Gov. Nasiru El-Rufa’i of Kaduna state has said that governors and ministers under the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) have resolved to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to contest the 2019 presidential election. El-Rufa’i, who made this known to State House correspondents after a closed door meeting with President Buhari in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday, said the governors and the ministers made the call as members of the “Buharist Group”. The “Buharist Group” is an association of APC governors and ministers, whose primary aim is to promote and defend the perceived socio-political interests of President Buhari. The governor dismissed the assertion that he was being groomed to replace President Buhari in 2019. According to him, as a member of the “Buharist group’’ he has no presidential ambition as being speculated since he left the public service as minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in 2007. Cue in audio – 1 El-Rufa’i “My name has continuously been mentioned as a Presidential aspirant s‎ince 2007 after my years in the FCT, there is nothing new about that. “What I want to say here very, very clearly is that I have never been a Presidential aspirant, I have never even been a gubernatorial aspirant. “I am governor today by the grace of God because President Buhari called me and said go and run for Governor of Kaduna state. “As far as 2019 is concerned, my position is the President (Muhammadu Buhari) is looking very well, he is recuperating very fast. My hope and prayer is he will contest in 2019,’’ he said. Cue out audio – El-Rufa’i On the recent political comments attributed to the Minister of Womem Affairs and Social Development, Aishat Alhassan, El-Rufa’i said Nigerians should not be surprised or shocked over her utterances, saying that in the APC she was never in the Buhari camp. Aishat Alhassan had on Wednesday disclosed in a BBC Hausa Service interview that she would rather resign as minister than abandon the former vice president “if he decides to run for presidential elections in 2019’’. However, El-Rufa’i said that Alhassan neither supported Buhari’s candidature during the APC National Convention nor voted for (Buhari) him during the party primaries. “This has always been her position because from time she has never supported Buharism or what Buhari stands for. “Being part of Buhari government is a different thing because government sets policies and if you are a minister you execute the policies. You can execute those policies while pursuing a different brand of politics,’’ he said. The governor, who said he was in the Presidential Villa to wish the President “very happy Sallah’’ and also join him in performing the Juma’at prayer, said it was the President’s prerogative to either retain or remove the minister from the cabinet. He said: “Look, you can retain a person in the cabinet even if he doesn’t support you if he adds value to the country. Because this is a government, it is not a political group fighting for some political progress. “If Jummai Alhassan is coming as Minister of Women Afairs and adding value to the government and the people of Nigeria it is the President’s prerogative to retain her in spite of her political views. “But if she is not adding value in spite of her political views she can be dispensed with…… people shouldn’t get worried about it. I have worked closely with the President, I know him and I know how he thinks. He doesn’t take these things personally…. What is primary to him is Nigeria’s progress… that is what matters ultimately.’’ On the ongoing debate on restructuring the country, El-Rufa’i, who is chairing the APC ‎committee on true federalism, said his committee would start public hearings on the matter from Sept, 18. He said that the committee had started receiving a lot of comments and memoranda particularly from young people who had never been part of the restructuring conversation. According to him, the committee will have 13 public hearings across the country. “By the time we listen to Nigerians and synthesize their views, we will write and make recommendations to our party how to operationalise true federalism as we have promised in our constitution,’’ he said.(NAN

Resign, Amosun tells minister

Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state has berated Women Affairs and Social Development minister Jummai Aisha Alhassan over her comments on 2019 presidential election candidacy and asked her to resign. She had confirmed a BBC report where she expressed preference to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar against her boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, for the 2019 presidential ticket of APC. Amosun, who spoke at a book launch in Abeokuta, on Saturday said although Alhassan was entitled to her opinion, he expected her to have tendered her resignation immediately after the comments. The governor said that Alhassan was entitled to her opinion but that he would have saluted her if she had honourably resigned her appointment because no one could blow both hot and cold at the same time. “I would have saluted her if she had resigned but falling short of resigning has taken everything away from what she had said. Well, I am not Mr President and I know that at the appropriate time he will review things. “For somebody to have come out and say such thing means she might be working against the government and she will not want that government to succeed. “That is my own belief. Although I may be wrong, if I am in her shoes she should have done that and resigned.’’ Amosun expressed doubt if the Minister desired the success of the Buhari – led administration since she had declared support for Atiku ahead of the 2019 presidential election. He declared that nobody has the right to stop Buhari from contesting for the presidential election in 2019 except he himself decides against it on health ground. “On this 2019, the only thing that can probably prevent Mr. president from contesting is on health ground,” he said. Amosun who commended Buhari for the great positive changes he had effected in Nigeria, said he was the appropriate person the nation needed when he took over the reins of power. “If not for this administration of President Muhammad Buhari, only God knows where Nigeria would have been by now. “Again I am saying it, the only thing that can stop Mr President is on health ground but as we can see today, Mr President is back rejuvenating and very soon it would be clear for everybody to see that Mr president is so well now. ” I commend the President for his performance on the three cardinal programmes of his administration because he has performed better in the areas of security, economy and the fight against corruption,” he said. PDP has not learnt from past mistakes – Oduah

Sen. Stella Oduah has said it appeared the former ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was repeating the mistakes that led to its defeat in the 2015 elections. The senator representing Anambra North, who reacted to the Anambra state governorship primary, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the party has started again to impose candidates for elections. Oduah, a former aviation minister, who had formally complained to the leadership of the party, explained that due process was not followed in the conduct of the primaries. Those in charge of the primaries, she alleged, imposed a candidate and disenfranchised other candidates and delegates. “I am still waiting for the party to address the concerns and the issues that I raised, the party constitutions clearly stated how primary elections ought to be conducted.’’ “Mine was very clear. I raised the alert when defects were noted.’’ She explained that she wrote to complain and to insist she would not going to be part of the process if her complaints were not addressed. “It will be illegal and unjust to follow it to the end, it is like knowing that a hole is somewhere then you are blindly walking into it. “Anything unjust is totally unacceptable to me and that is where we are now, waiting for the party to address those concerns,” she said. She stressed that there was always penalty for disenfranchising party members and added that imposition and disenfranchisement were part of the problems of the party in the past. She further said that if the party failed to address the concerns raised by her and some other contestants in the Anambra PDP primaries, then the party had not learnt from past mistakes. “If the party fails to address these concerns it means the party has not learnt its lessons. “I wish the party will revisit and address all concerns because when people are aggrieved and you are not concerned about those grievances, you are saying two things: “go to hell” and “there is nothing you can do about it”.

Arsenal Boss Arsene Wenger Blast Neymar Over PSG Move (Read What He Said)

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has criticized Neymar’s decision to leave Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain and claims he is no longer playing with the best players. Neymar became the most expensive footballer ever, following his world-record €222million transfer in August. Wenger, speaking to beIN SPORTS, acknowledged his surprise that a global talent in the prime of his career, would choose to leave the La Liga giants. “Neymar never expressed exactly in his statement the reasons of his move, because there is always a huge desire for the players to play with the best players,” he said. “He decided to go the other way, so that is… for financial reasons, or for reasons that he thinks Paris Saint-Germain is tomorrow’s club and will take over from Real Madrid and Barcelona. “Or maybe for individual reasons, such as maybe he wants to become the player that the team turns around, and to be acknowledged as the best player in the world.”

Ex-Super Eagles Coach, Adegboye Onigbinde Seeks To Divorce His Wife Over ‘Stubbornness’ (Full Gist)

Former Super Eagles coach, Adegboye Onigbinde, has filed a divorce suit against his wife, Abiona, at the Ibadan Customary Grade C Court sitting in Mapo, Oyo state. According to him, Abiona is violent and stubborn and unwilling to continue living harmoniously with him. When both appeared in court, the President of the court, Chief Odunade Adewuyi told the wife about the allegations leveled against her. Asked if she wanted the marriage to be dissolved, Mrs. Onigbinde replied in the negative, saying she did not know why a divorce suit was filed against her. The court said: “If his (Onigbinde) prayers are heard by the court, do you think the marriage should not be dissolved? “Which steps did you take after your husband complained about these allegations? Does he like your attitude? Let us say you are the husband and your wife says he doesn’t want something, won’t you know?” The woman replied: “He said he doesn’t like it. He said I’m violent, but it is not so. I called the first child and told him about it. Also, I told my child and my husband’s elder brother. Our children went to beg him but he refused.” The president and other members of the court, Elder E.A. Ogundipe and Chief Raifu Raji, advised the woman to maintain peace with her husband. Before the court adjourned hearing in the case, Onigbinde asked if his life would be protected because he was nearly attacked when one of the children and her husband came to his house.

(Number 3 Is So Interesting) – See The 4 Interesting Things African Parents Do

African parents are gifts that keep up on giving – they are loving, they are tough, they are inspiring and can sometimes drive you crazy (then again, all parents, regardless of race or ethnicity, are all guilty of this), but we can’t deny that they are the absolute best. Here are the 4 interesting things African parents do. 1. Calling Their Children From Far Away To Hand Them Things Less Than a Meter Away Okay that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but it’s not uncommon for African parents to ask their children to do things they can easily do themselves, or send their children on errands they can easily go on themselves. They argue that the point of this is to teach their children duty and responsibility, and considering how resourceful African children eventually become, African parents just might be onto something. 2. Prohibiting Children From Calling Elders By Their First Names In African homes, it is considered disrespectful for children to call an elder by their first name, and African parents are zealous in ensuring such disrespect does not occur in their homes. It is more appropriate for children to address elders as ‘uncle’ or ‘aunty’ (though the children might have no familial ties or relation with the person). In less Afrocentric homes, the children are allowed to address elders with ‘mr’, ‘miss’, ‘mrs’, ‘sir’, ‘ma’ or ‘madam’ in addition to their actual names, but never with just their names. 3. Speaking To Their Children in Proverbs and Metaphors This is done often by African parents when they are upset or dissatisfied with the actions of their child/children. African parents use the proverbs and/or metaphors to better drive home their point to their children, and ring a note of warning and/or caution. If an African parent speaks to their child/children with a proverb and/or metaphor, they mean business and it’s definitely not something to be taken lightly. 4. They Seldom Admit They Are Wrong For some reason, African parents seldom admit they are wrong. They might acknowledge they have erred through their actions, but they will hardly ever verbalize it or apologize for it. It is difficult to understand, but some argue that it might have something to do with the fact that they believe that admitting their faults and verbally apologizing to their children will put the respect the children have for them at risk, and humanize them to the point of possibly losing the respect of their children.

Finally!! Louis Van Gaal Reveals Why The Special One Jose Mourinho Replaced Him At Manchester United

Former Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal, has claimed that the Red Devils sacked him and hired Jose Mourinho for “commercial reasons”. The Dutchman has broken his silence on why he was ruthlessly sacked by United in May 2016, less than 24 hours after winning the FA Cup at Wembley. Van Gaal also claimed the only thing the men who run the Old Trafford care about is money. He said: “Manchester United had record (financial) figures in the two years that I was there. “And don’t underestimate what that means for United. Nothing as important as the figures for United. “Look, every big club needs a good organization. The people in charge can run the club in football way or in a commercial way. “At Manchester United the balance has tipped well over to the commercial side. “Were they unhappy about the results or the performances of the team under my management? “No. But all of a sudden they could get Mourinho for the long term, a manager with a massive commercial value in the world. “Woodward finally said this exactly so to me the day after the FA Cup Final.”

Lagos University Sacks ASUU Chairman, Vice & 15 Other Lecturers For Malpractices

The Lagos State University (LASU) Governing Council has dismissed 15 Academic Staff, including the Chairman and Vice Chairman of Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) of the institution, over various malpractices. The dismissed LASU-ASUU Chairman and Vice Chairman were Isaac Oyewunmi and Adebowale Adeyemi-Suenu. LASU spokesperson, Ademola Adekoya, said in Lagos on Friday that the institution also dismissed two non-academic staff and demoted two others. Among others dismissed for various financial and academic misconduct were Olatoye Raji, Olugbenro Odofin, Adebowale Ademeso, John Adeogun, Scholastica Udegbe and Olufemi Soyeju. Other were Olawale Raimi, Ademola Adesina, Shamisudeen Badmus, Christiana Obagbuwa, Emmanuel Asapo, Lateef Salami, Olubukola Oyeniya and Fatimat Bakare. Mr. Adekoya said that the decision to dismiss the staff was taken at LASU 115th Governing Council Meeting on Thursday. “Pursuant thereto, the Governing Council with immediate effect dismissed 15 members of the academic staff, two members of non-academic staff, and sanctioned two others for different acts of misconduct. Mr. Oyewunmi was dismissed for demanding N50, 000 from students while Mr. Adeyemi-Suenu was sacked for “unilaterally altered the results of 12 students already advised to withdraw by Senate’’ Mr. Adekoya said the council established that Mr. Oyewunmi demanded N50,000 from 2003 modular year students of Political Science Education on the sandwich programme to process their results. According to the council, Mr. Oyewunmi is found culpable of attempt to obtain money for himself as an inducement to carry out his duties, and consequently dismissed from the service of the university. Mr. Adekoya said that the university established that Mr. Adeyemi-Suenu unilaterally altered the results of 12 students already advised to withdraw by Senate in the Department of History and International Studies in the 2015/2016 academic session. “He changed their status from “withdrawn” to “good standing”. He also changed the results of some final year students and stragglers outside the scope of the departmental decision,” he said. “Dr Adeyemi-Suenu also awarded grade point of 2.0 to two students in an examination which they were absent. “This is tantamount to manipulation of students’ results in contravention of provisions of the Conditions and Scheme of Service for Senior Staff and therefore dismissed from the service of the university.”
