There are some major dark sides of National Youth Service scheme which are pathetic, thinking of various abnormalities participants are brewing on a daily basis which are 1. Having secret love affairs with students Some male corps members are nothing but paedophiles as they are fond of taking advantage of the innocence of students entrusted with them to gain sexual gratification. It’s very disgraceful to see male corps members jubilating when posted to primary/ secondary schools because they know they stand a very good chance of sleeping with girls that are below the age of consent. This is the height of stupidity being perpetuated by some male corps members and that’s what some of them spend their time doing for a whole year then they return back home the same way they left. 2. Extravagant spending/ lack of saving culture Spending recklessly, lavishly and ostentatiously on irrelevant things are common traits among some corpers of today. They eat with their two hands, go into debts and will still demand more money from home. In fact, even their khakis and jungle boots can easily be recognized by every beer palour in their environment where they normally have rendezvous. These are people who will return back home empty handed after their service year after which they will begin to constitute nuisance in the society by becoming IPOB and Afonja when joblessness hit them. 3. Lusting after ladies It’s not new to us that some male corps members are fond of chasing and sleeping with both village and rural girls out of NYSC exuberance. In fact, I, Tosyne2much, have even witnessed a scenario when a male corps member sighted his crush by and quickly dashed into his room to change into his khaki and jungle boot so that the girl will know he’s a serving corper. Some of them impregnate these girls in the process and will head to NYSC secretariat for redeployment to another state in other to avoid shame and embarrassment. Married/Engaged Woman disguising themselves as single ladies in orientation camps Many of us must have seen married and engaged women stupidly falling in love with random guys in orientation camps because of stomach infrastructure at mami market. I remember when I was serving in Kano in 1995, a married woman and a guy were caught doing it on parade ground and were both sent packing. 5. Stupidly falling in love with play boys Most ladies, if not all, get carried away by the euphoria of NYSC and that’s why there’s a high possibility of losing your girlfriend the moment she goes for service. This is the time they cohabit and flirt with anything that has two legs since their boyfriends are out of sight. They can even flirt with rifraffs such as native doctors and palm wine tappers forgetting they have boyfriends somewhere, and at the end of the day, they return home with syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, genital herpes, trichomoniasis, HIV/AIDS, etc. 6. Rebel against native laws No matter how some rules seem to be old-fashioned, corpers should endeavour to pay obedience to them especially those that are serving in villages or Shari estates. It has been observed that some corps members usually rebel against what they deem to be outdated laws because they feel they’re too educated to obliged to them and that’s how many of them invite problems into their lives. Those artistes will eagerly telling you that their success is due to self-belief, grind and more grind. Compare those to names like Jeffery Akor, Geoffery and Olawale– all past winners of the reality show Project Fame and it is immediately clear that winning a reality show does not guarantee any success. One of the past winners of Project Fame- the very first season, Iyanya thinks those ‘street’ artistes are doing more for themselves than many of his successors have done. While speaking to Sources, the Ex triple MG and now Mavin artiste expressed his disappointment how things have turned out for many past winners. ‘Honestly, I feel like some guys on the street are doing their thing better than reality show winners. I am actually not hearing from most reality show winners after winning the event; instead, people are moving into movies after winning. Once they win, the next thing is to see them on one soap opera.’ Iyanya faults the attitudes of some winners who he says does not have any concrete plan once they are out of the Project Fame Academy. He feels majority of them cannot stay on the grind to make a success out of their career- like artistes from the streets do. ‘Even me, after I won project fame, it took me two years before finally getting it right. Finally Iyanya says he doesn’t pay attention to the reality talent hunts these days. ‘I wont lie to you, I am not interested in most of the present shows anymore. ALBUM INFO Album -Simisola Artist – Simi Record Label – X3M Music (2017) Duration – 54 minutes Lets get started with the Album Tracks review. 1. REMIND ME She is singing in this angelic voice, stating her flaws and asking to be reminded how to love in the first verse. This piano playing, My Goodness! This is Epic. Simi’s lyrical composition beats every other of her female counterparts. Hands down. Oscar on the beat. This is great, yo!. Short and leaves us wanting for more. 2. JOROMI Pre-released and seems to be pushed out as the hit of the album. Groovy song, Bears no semblance to the Victor Uwaifo classic. 3. AIMASIKO This is fuji. The drums are good. She’s telling us to have faith in God. This is gospel driven. The hook is something I have heard before. A popular Yoruba gospel song, this sounds like a beat first given to Adekunle Gold. I can only imagine ‘Oya na’ sung from the depths of these drums. Solid! 4. COMPLETE ME Imagine if Fela ever sang a love ballad, tuning down his Afrocentricy and madness for a second. Oscar, Mr Producer, This guy is good. No doubts on this, Simi has voice. Simi can sing. Simi writes like a sage. Simi should just sell lyrics to Rihanna if she ever decides to quit singing. ‘No one completes you more than me.’ She sings to her lover. What’s a heart without a beat? This beat has gradually eased into soft fuji. This album came with a lot of drums. 5. GONE FOR GOOD She’s telling a story, a returnee lover. He brings back memories and she wishes he never returned. We always have that person from the past that threatens to crack open the wounds that have mended over time. This acoustic offering melds so perfectly into the emotions in Simi’s voice. 6. ORIGINAL BABY Reggae feel! Trumpets, drums, keyboard. Simi enters into this seamlessly. ‘Money don’t drive me, I drive my money.’ Simi goes all the way into preaching originality on this one. Preach on baby! 7. ONE KAIN Celebration Song for a night of drinks. A guy’s looking at her one kain. She’s shy? She does look the shy type though. This song is laid back and the beat transcends genres but Simi is so Nigerian that garri makes the cut. 8. TAKE ME BACK (Ft. Adekunle Gold) This is the only ‘collabo’ on the album. No Forget for me, didn’t live up to expectations. The song starts with a guitar riff. This beat makes good setting for this story. Take me back, she says Home? The guitar is great. Mr. Adekunle is great on this, though his verse is short. He trades a back and forth with Simi. Kunle, stop forming and go back to our darling Simi jor!. One of the best songs on the album, this beats No Forget, to me. I’ll be coming back to this. 9. O WA N’BE The famed Yoruba craze for parties. Trust Simi to talk about it. The sound is upbeat. You have to move to this. She name drops King Sunny Ade and Olamide. Come to think of this, the YBNL honcho would bless this perfectly. I see radio potential in this. 10. SMILE FOR ME In my opinion, Simi’s best song ever. But hey, I won’t fight Hulk Hogan. Even for you. 11. ANGELINA This is another reggae offering. She’s threatening her cheating lover. She has to let him go. He cheated on her with Angelina. Why does this beat scream for a Patoranking or Burna Boy feature? 12. HIP HOP HUYYAY Feel good jam. Hip Hop Yuyyah! This is the song for a laid back Friday with the homies. Feels good! Sounds good!. Sounds nothing like Hip Hop but then, maybe just Hop your Hips? BONUS TRACKS Love Don’t Care, JAMB Question, Tiff. (You’ve all grooved this many months ago na.) Early Favorites: Remind Me, Original Baby, Take Me Back, Smile For Me. Not so Early Favorites: Joromi, Aimasiko, O wa N’be OUR VERDICT ON THE ALBUM The self-titled SIMISOLA album is a solid take on who this young lady is fearless, unapologetic lover. Halfway into the album, I wondered if her themes were not shallow then I realized, this is her. She isn’t a political artiste, she is Simisola. She wants to explore love and heartbreak. Tuface Launches “Vote Not Fight” Campaign

Legendary singer, Innocent Idibia or 2baba, Tuface as he is popularly called has finally launched his ‘Vote Not Fight’ campaign to promote peaceful governorship ahead of the Anambra Gubernatorial elections scheduled for November 18, 2017. The campaign is a collaboration of 2Face Idibia Foundation, Youngstars Development Initiative (YDI) and Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth and Advancement (YIAGA). According to tuface, he stressed the need for everyone to work together to prevent needless loss of lives before, during and after the election. He told newsmen at Akwa, “Since 2015, I and the partner organisations on the Vote Not Fight campaign have worked tirelessly to increase youth participation in our country’s election. I call on youth of Anambra to ensure that they go out and vote for the candidates of their choice. The legitimacy of government is dependent on peaceful, free, fair and credible elections.” tuface urged political parties and candidates to utilise established legal avenues if they had concerns about the election. He further implored traditional and religious rulers, elder statesmen as well as youth and women groups to join the campaign against violent election and play by the rules. Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, is hoping to finish Sunday’s Premier League clash against Arsenal with 11 men. Speaking ahead of the game on Friday, Conte hinted that red cards shown to Victor Moses and Pedro Rodriguez in the two previous meetings between the clubs were unjustified. “I hope to finish the game with 11 players, because in the last two games, FA Cup final and the Community Shield, we finished two games with 10 men,” he said. “I hope this. Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater has suffered a calf injury and will not make his Blues debut until October. The England international, 27, moved to Stamford Bridge from Leicester on transfer deadline day for £35m. Drinkwater was an unused substitute in the 2-1 victory over his former club last Saturday and and missed Tuesday’s Champions League thrashing of Qarabag. “He had a muscular problem in his calf. He needs time to recover,” said manager Antonio Conte. “I think it is very difficult to see him before the international break. It is a pity because he was starting to work and to improve his physical condition. “Now we have to move all these situations. And in two, three weeks, four weeks, I don’t know.”
