All accredited media, including AIT, free to cover President- elect’s activities – APC

APC just released a statement saying all
accredited media, including AIT, are free to
cover President-elect’s activities. Read
below...
The All Progressives Congress (APC)
has said that all accredited media
organizations in the country, including
the African Independent Television
(AIT), are free to cover the activities of
the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu
Buhari.
In a statement issued in Abuja on
Tuesday by its National Publicity
Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the
party said the incoming Buhari
Administration will not discriminate
against any media organization,
irrespective of its role during the
electioneering campaign leading up to
the recent polls.
It however enjoined all media organizations
to observe the highest level of professional
standards in carrying out their duties.
”There is a Code of Ethics guiding the
practice of journalism in Nigeria, and this
demands every journalist to ensure a strict
adherence to the highest levels of ethics and
professionalism in carrying out their duties.
”There must be repercussions, within the
realms of the law, for media organizations
which have wantonly breached the Code of
Ethics of the journalism profession and
turned themselves to partisans instead of
professionals. But such repercussions will not
include barring any accredited media
organization from covering the activities of
the President-elect,” APC said.

PDP releases press statement on AIT ban, says it's dangerous for democracy

Press statement from the PDP on AIT ban,
which the APC has since lifted..
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
has described as unacceptable the
Monday’s directive by the President-
elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to bar
a television house, the AIT, from
covering his activities, saying the
suppression of the media under any
guise portends danger for the nation’s
democracy.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh
in a statement on Tuesday said that after
carefully studying the defence posited by
General Buhari’s campaign spokesperson as
well as the smokescreen statement by the
APC to cover and mitigate his anti-media
posture, the PDP and indeed all lovers of
democracy are persuaded that the action was
not only unjustifiable, but also
unconstitutional and completely against the
spirit of liberty and the rule of law in a
democracy.
He said “the PDP as a party that have
nurtured the nation’s democracy in the past
16 years cannot afford to fold its hands and
watch the constitutional rights, media
freedom and personal liberty of Nigerians, the
basic tenets of democracy being demolished.
“We ask, is this a beginning of the feared
erosion of the freedom and personal liberty
the media and Nigerian citizens have been
enjoying in the last 16 years under the PDP
led-administration? Has our dear nation
finally fallen into the clutches of
totalitarianism and impunity where
government actions will based on egocentric
decisions and impulses of individuals rather
than the rule of law?
“While we assure the President-elect of our
resolve to run a mature and responsible
opposition based on issues, we are disturbed
by this emerging development and reassure
the Nigerian people that we will continue to
stand with them on issues of democracy and
freedom at all times.
“Perhaps, we need to remind General Buhari
that part of the challenge of his new position,
even as President-elect is that he has lost his
private life which is now subject to public
scrutiny and media interrogation, as required
of the custodian of the mandate of the
Nigerian people.
“The PDP is not oblivious of the background
of the President-elect especially as it relates
to the freedom of the media, but we had
thought that having declared to be a
converted democrat, he would make himself
amenable to the basic principles of
democracy by following the due process of
the law on any circumstance.
“General Buhari may also wish to be
reminded that the Nigerian constitution upon
which provisions he emerged President-elect,
also gave the media powers to cover
activities of public office holders while at the
same time providing legal avenues for
redress in the event of any violation. If the
right of the President-elect was in anyway
violated by the AIT or any media house for
that matter, he is expected to act within the
law and seek redress in the courts otherwise
one would have no option than to conclude
that he is out for personal vendetta.
“The APC and the President-elect may have
one or two lessons to pick from President
Goodluck Jonathan, who though the most
maligned and abused President in the history
of our nation, even by the APC, allowed his
actions to be sufficiently guided by humility,
tolerance and the rule of law”, the PDP said.
The party called on Nigerians not to despair
but remain steadfast and unite in resisting
any anti-democratic tendencies intended to
instill fear in them and set the stage for a
dictatorial order and the erosion of their
personal freedom and liberty as citizens,
which they have been enjoying in the last 16
years under the PDP.

Pres. Jonathan orders immediate release of report of forensic audit of NNPC accounts

State House press statement...
We have noted with concern, the
allegation by the spokesman of the All
Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji
Lai Mohammed that officials of the
Federal Government are engaged in
“last minute looting of the nation’s
resources, rushed privatization of key
institutions and hurried recruitment
into the public service”.
We also consider as most unfortunate
and uncharitable, the suggestion by
Alhaji Mohammed that the Jonathan
Administration is trying to “tie the
hands” of the incoming government
merely by continuing to discharge its
constitutional responsibilities until the
end of its tenure.
The Jonathan Administration which continues
to do its best to ensure a smooth and
peaceful handover over of power to the
President-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari,
deeply regrets the unfairness and combative
frame of mind reflected in Alhaji
Mohammed’s statement.
President Jonathan has done his best in the
past five years to discharge his constitutional
responsibilities for good governance and
effective leadership of the nation.
Without any prejudice whatsoever to the
freedom of the incoming administration to do
as it pleases, within the confines of extant
laws when it assumes office, the Jonathan
Administration will continue to discharge its
responsibility to govern until May 29, 2015.
In continuing to fulfil the obligations of his
office however, President Jonathan has not,
and will never condone any form of
unscrupulous conduct on the part of state
officials.
President Jonathan will also never authorise
any attempt to create any problems for the
incoming administration as the APC
spokesperson, who ought to know that the
outcome of the March 28 presidential
elections does not imply a cessation of
governance, unjustly alleges.
As Alhaji Mohammed threatened in his
statement, the incoming administration will
be perfectly within its rights to review all
actions of the present government as it may
deem fit.
We see nothing wrong with that. After all, the
present Administration reviewed the actions
of previous governments on assumption of
office with resultant benefits for policy and
project implementation.
President Jonathan is also deeply concerned
by the continuing suggestions that his
administration still has anything to hide
about the unproven allegation that about $20
Billion is unaccounted for by the NNPC
during his tenure.
To lay the matter to rest, President Jonathan
in line with Section 7(2) of the NNPC Act,
has directed that the full report of the PWC
Forensic Audit of the NNPC accounts be
released immediately to the public so that all
Nigerians will be properly informed on the
matter.

Ex NDDC commissioner sentenced to 3 years in jail for stealing transformers worth N220m

An AkwaIbom State High Court has sentenced
Pastor Godwin Moffat (pictured above), a
former NDDC Commissioner representing
Akwa Ibom State, to three years imprisonment
for stealing 56 transformers worth N220, 176,
320 which was meant for oil producing
communities in the state.
In a 56 count charge filed in court by the
EFCC, Pastor Moffat was said to have
applied for 90 electricity transformers and 4
generators from NDDC for Akwa Ibom State
sometime in February, 2006. Approval was
given for 70 transformers but he diverted
same to his house in Eket on the pretext that
there was no space to accommodate the
newly issued 70 units of transformers at the
NDDC office in Uyo.
He thereafter sent only 14 Units to NDDC
office in Uyo while he withheld 56 units which
he could not account for till date.
One of the count reads,
“That you Pastor Godwin Moffat Eyo
being a former Akwa Ibom State
representative on the Board of the
Niger Delta Development Commission
(NDDC) on or about 14thApril, 2006 at
Uyo in the Uyo Judicial Division did
fraudulently steal a 300 KVA/33/0.415

Boko Haram is a fraud - Buhari

A statement from Gen Buhari signed by his
media aide, Shehu Garba.
"The fraud called Boko Haram can be
defeated by denying it a recruitment
base," General Buhari told visiting
leaders of Nassarawa State who came
to congratulate him on his emergence
as President-elect. No religion allows
for the killing of children in school
dormitory, in markets and places of
worship. They have nothing to do with
religion. They are terrorists and we are
going to deal with them as they deal
with terrorists anywhere," he
announced.
Buhari said he is greatly pained by the
destruction of schools in the North-eastern
part of the country, an action he said could
deny thousands of youngsters access to
education and a better future unless
something was done urgently to avert this
tragedy.
"The worst thing anybody can do is to deny
children access to education. That will be
destructive to their lives and we are not
going to allow that to happen," the President-
elect assured.
He announce that his government will help
the states to get more money to improve
infrastructure by ensuring that all federally
collectible revenues are paid directly into the
federation account and each tier of
government given its due share.
"As at now, the government does not even
know how many revenue accounts it has. We
will give all the tiers what is due to them but
will hold them to be accountable as we would
the federal government."
Buhari while describing Nassarawa state as
his own "political laboratory", meaning the
only CPC-controlled state of the 36 others
adjudged the experiment as having been a
success.
"From one state, I now have 22 political
laboratories."
He commended Governor Al-Makura for
surviving his many impeachment plots,
saying "without Nassarawa, there would not
have been an APC."

Buhari bars AIT from covering his activities

Staff of Africa Independent Television, AIT,
have been barred from covering all activities
of the President-elect, Gen. Buhari until
issues bordering on ethics and standards
against them have been addressed. AIT crew
members were today escorted out of the
Defence House where the president-elect
currently resides. He was about to have a
meeting with the Cuban and Switzerland
ambassadors when the reporters were
escorted out. Speaking on the development,
the spokesperson of the Buhari campaign
organization, Shehu Garba said family and
security concerns necessitated it.
"AIT has been asked to step aside
based on security and family concerns.
In addition, Buhari has decided that
they will have to resolve some issues
relating to issues of standard and
ethics. We will be talking with them to
try and resolve the matter, but for now
the station has been asked to stay
aside because, like I said, there are
some family and security concerns.
They have been asked to step down
their coverage until we resolve the
matter with them on ethics and
standards. You can quote me that I
said that we have asked them to step
aside and that we are resolving the the
issues of ethics and standards with
them.”he said

APC alleges GEJ's administration engaging in last minute dubious activities

The Leadership of the APC has alleged that
members of Pres. Jonathan's administration
are engaging in last minute dubious activities
ahead of the May 29th handover. In a
statement released by the publicity secretary
of the party, Lai Mohammed, the party
alleged that reports from the media as well
as information gathered from reliable sources
suggest the current administration is
engaging in rushed contract awarding and
staff recruitment.
"For example, the National Council on
Privatisation, which is headed by the
Vice-President, has just approved the
financial bid opening for transaction
advisers for the privatisation of the
three development finance institutions
in the country – the Bank of
Agriculture, Bank of Industry and
Nigeria Commodity Exchange.
Question is: What is the rationale for
rushing this exercise with just weeks
left for this administration?
Also, there have been reports, not
refuted, of a planned hurried
recruitment into the Nigeria
Immigration Service, after a previous
attempt ended in a national tragedy
and the fleecing of innocent job
seekers by mindless Federal
Government officials. The Civil
Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons
Services Board is only empowered to
recruit, promote and discipline only
senior officers (levels eight and
above). The power to recruit, promote
and discipline junior officers is vested
in the different services, in this case
the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Therefore, the recruitment exercise now
being conducted by the federal civil
service under the auspices of the
Presidential Committee to Assist on
Immigration Recruitment usurps the
functions of the board as it relates to
the recruitment of Senior Officers
(level 08) and that of the immigration
service as it relates to Junior Officers
(levels 07 and below).”the statement
in part read
The party also alleged that the FCT minister,
Senator Bala Mohammed has embarked on
the secret recruitment of about 500 new staff
into the Federal Capital Development
Authority
"We do not know if this report, as well
as others, is true. But if indeed these
rushed privatisation and hurried
recruitment exercises – in the twilight
of the Jonathan administration – are
true, they raise serious questions
concerning the reasons behind such
actions. We are therefore compelled to
call on President Jonathan to call his
officials to order, lest they engage in
actions that can later embarrass his
administration. This is against the
backdrop of the precarious situation
into which the Jonathan
administration has plunged the
nation’s economy, no thanks to years
of ceaseless and unprecedented
profligacy by the outgoing
administration, as well as mind-
boggling acts of corruption and looting
of the public treasury by some
administration officials and their
collaborators” the statement read

Woman gives birth in a bathroom at work, seals the baby in a plastic bag, and hides it in a drawer

A 25-year-old Michigan woman Kim Pappas
was charged with homicide after giving birth
to a son in a bathroom stall at work. Kim
didn't tell anyone she was pregnant. On
Thursday last week, she went into labour
while at work, went to the bathroom, had her
baby, a boy, cut the umbilical cord with
cuticle scissors, sealed the baby in a plastic
bag, returned to her desk and hid her baby in
a drawer, officials said during a court
appearance on Friday.

Pappas appeared in court via video link to be
arraigned because she had been denied bail.

After she left the toilet stall, one of her
coworkers who heard moaning went in there
and saw blood all over the place, she didn't
see who was in the stall, only heard moaning,
so she reported the bloodied floor
to management, who called the Police.
Kim Pappas didn't admit what she did until
one of her coworkers saw blood stains on her
dress. They saw blood on her drawer, opened
it and saw the baby's body in there. The
baby showed no signs of life at the office
and was later pronounced dead at the
hospital.
When asked, Kim initially admitted that she
gave birth to the baby but that she
miscarried. Upon further investigation, an
autopsy was carried out which revealed that
the baby was full term and died of
suffocation. Then she admitted to what she
had done.
Kim was then arrested and charged with
premeditated murder. She is currently in jail
without bond. Her Lawyer is trying to plead a
case of insanity but no one is buying it.

Akwa Ibom govt warns residents to desist from eating 'Ponmo'

Akwa Ibom state government has warned
residents of the state to desist from eating
cow skin popularly known as Ponmo as
research has shown that the consumption of
the cow skin has led to the increase in cancer
and liver problems in the state.
At a press conference in Uyo yesterday April
26th, the state Commissioner for Agriculture
& Natural Resources, Mr. Godwin Afangideh,
represented by Director of Veterinary Services
in the state, Dr. Obot Obot said the high
quantity of salt used for the preservation of
the cow skin has been traced to have adverse
effect on the liver of the consumers and also
increases the risk of having cancer
"The state government, through the
veterinary services directorate of the
ministry, has embarked on a
sensitisation campaign in some
markets in the local government areas
to talk to the people about the danger
of consuming such meat. The
veterinary officer, who was in charge
of the sensitisation campaign, went to
different markets and talked to the
people on the imperatives of how to
watch out for toxic meat following
reports of its importation into the
country. Cow skin meat, which is five
times thicker than ordinary skin meat,

Kenny K'ore (ex-Infinity member) twin sister kidnapped

The twin sister of  Kenny K'ore, a gospel
artist, has been kidnapped! Taiwo Oluwatoyin
Akinbode (pictured above) traveled to Port
Harcourt, Rivers State on Friday, April 16 for
a job prospect when she fell into the well-set
trap of the kidnappers. A ransom of N5m is
being demanded from the family for her
release.
It was a well-laid job opportunity scam on
the internet that attracted Taiwo to PH - and
her current ordeal. A source close to the
family claimed Taiwo's two phones had gone
quiet, except when the brother was called to
make ransom demands. On a number of
occasions, the unfortunate woman was heard
wailing for help as she was apparently being
tortured.
The family has contacted the police in Lagos,
and PH, the Anti-kidnapping unit in Lagos
and PH, SSS, NIA, AIG, and IG's office, but all
have proved abortive
The family is now asking that well meaning
Nigerians support Kenny, and his family in
prayers, and in anyway possible to get his
sister back safe and sound.

Gen Buhari signifies interest to probe alleged missing $20bn NNPC money

President-elect Gen. Buhari has signified
interest to probe the alleged missing $20
billion from the coffers of the NNPC.
Speaking with APC members from Adamawa
state at the APC National headquarters in
Abuja today April 26th, Gen Buhari queried
the dismissal of Former CBN governor now
Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II who
raised alarm over the missing money.
"I heard that some people have started
returning money; I will not believe it
until I go and see for myself. Imagine
a situation where the former CBN
governor who by God ‘s grace would
later become the Emir of Kano raised
an issue of missing billions of money,
not in Naira but in Dollars, $20 billion.
What happened, instead of
investigating to know whether it was
true that the money was missing or
not, they simply found a reason to
remove him. So these are the issues
we are talking about" he said in Hausa

Patience Jonathan’s attitude & anti-gay bill made Jonathan lose the election - PDP chieftain

Bayelsa state PDP publicity secretary, Mr.
Osom Makbere says international and local
factors contributed to President Jonathan's
defeat at the 2015 general elections. He
blamed it most on the president's wife and
the signing of the anti-gay bill
"Jonathan was a victim and target of
international cum domestic esoteric
codes and conspiracies. On the
international level, the passage of the
anti-gay legislation led to criticisms
and face-off with the US, and the
West. The strides made in the
economic sphere, especially domestic
rice promotion, calculated by the
Jonathan administration to flip
economic growth, and boost import
substitution, also negatively alerted
the West.
The shift to China for our railway
transformation, and recently, the
migration to Russia for arms and
ammunition to quelling the insurgency
also signalled to the West that
Jonathan had started constituting a
self-reliant and dependent nation-
state, a feat seen too tall by the US
and their allies in the West. The
aforesaid international factors found
room to flourish given the obstinacy
and impudence on the part of Mrs.
Jonathan. The end result of her
personal ambition to plant ‘self-made’
governors triggered face-offs with
some governors.” he told Punch
