PR Guru, Samuel Olatunji – Blessing Egbe’s “The Women” Is The Best Movie I Have Seen In 2017

It’s been long a Nollywood drama has been exciting as the movie “The Women”. Blessing Egbe’s new movie “The Women” is refreshingly different, a breath of fresh air from the usual comedy we have been served. Without doubt, it is the best movie I have seen in 2017 and it is encouraging that she chose to be different in a world where sounding the same is the only guarantee of financial success. I am recommending “The Women” without fear and will encourage many to see it so as to save Nollywood from the wanton craze for slapstick comedy and encourage producers to do exciting movies without putting common sense to sleep all in the name of trying to make people laugh. I don’t know about Blessing Egbe being the Tyler Perry of Nollywood but one thing that I know is if she continues like this, she will build an exciting name for her brand, herself and even earn more respect from people who matter; audiences and investors. Congratulations Blessing Egbe, you have a good movie in The Women. Editor’s note: Samuel Olatunji is the CEO of BBB Media, a PR company based in Lagos. Data Struggle On Twitter Over – Twitter starts testing the data-friendly ‘Lite’ version of its app

Many of us struggle with affording internet connection. Data plans are relatively costly for the average man in our country. This has greatly impeded a lot of our browsing expeditions especially on social media. Many of us are skeptical when we surf social media for the sake of data consumption. This is why Twitter’s Lite Version is big time goodnews for us here in Naija. Twitter is releasing the Lite aimed at emerging markets marked with data incongruences. Twitter has already launched the Twitter Lite in the Philippines. The success of the Twitter Lite in the Philippines would now determine if Twitter would extend it across the world in time to come. According to a statement from Twitter: “The Philippines market has slow mobile networks and expensive data plans, while mobile devices with limited storage are still very popular there. Twitter Lite helps to overcome these barriers to usage for Twitter in the Philippines.” Well talking about the Twitter Lite, it is no much different from the normal Twitter app. You can check news, scores and all that. The Lite according to Twitter, the lite consumes 70% less data when compared to the standard version. One beauty about this Lite is that there is media-free mode. With this mode, you can view preview of videos and images allowing you to decide which media materials to download.

Injuries have hindered Wilshere’s career and he is out of contract next summer. “He fights until the end. He’s on his way back to his best and showed that,” said Wenger. Wilshere – who is not in the current England squad – has only managed 80 Premier League starts for Arsenal because of a variety of injuries since his debut nine years ago. “He’s at an age where a player normally gets to the best of his career. He’s on the way up. He’s only been stopped by a series of injuries,” Wenger continued. “Hopefully, I just pray, he is not hampered by any more problems and that will see him getting stronger and stronger. He’s shown again that he’s not lost his football.” Walcott scored twice in Belarus, Rob Holding netted his first Gunners goal and Olivier Giroud scored his 100th goal for the club with a second-half penalty.

Business Is A Strategy – 5 Things To Consider Before Expanding Your Business

Entrepreneurs are decision-makers. They take decisions on the path or direction to drive their business. One of such decisions they have to take is when to expand their enterprise. Whether you get it right or wrong, your conclusions will have a groundbreaking impact on your business. Obviously, you do not want to get such a key decision wrong and join the approximately 70% to 80% of startups that fail within 5 years in Africa. Here are the things you have to consider before expanding your business. 1. A clear strategy The strategy is laying a clear roadmap ahead for the company to achieve its vision and mission. Without this, your expansion may be a totally foolhardy risk. 2. Stability of your financial report You should look to the data contained in your financial reports to determine the viability of an expansion at the current moment. The reports should show increasing profits, a firm handle on salary payment and good control over purchasing expenses. 3. Relationship with customers The truth is most companies in their early days do everything to keep their customers happy, and during their expansion phase, they fall apart in terms of customer service. Take this opportunity to build a rapport with your target group to win them over to your side. This is essential if the relationship is strained. If you cannot keep your customers happy, you really have no business expanding because there will be endless complaints which will not only ruin the reputation of your business but can also lead to business failure when you start losing them. 4. Effectiveness of your workforce A business depends on a well-trained, effective workforce to handle day-to-day activities. If you can rely on your staff to do their work tasks in an efficient manner, no matter what conditions throw at them, you are ready to utilize this essential resource to expand your business. 5. Funding Funding is perhaps the most important. Without capital, the business expansion will be near impossible. One trending way to get funds is through venture capitalists or serial investors who are willing and ready to invest in viable businesses. Don’t hesitate to take advantage of them by pitching to them. If your pitch is endorsed, they will pump money into your business and you can then expand.

Be Careful What You Eat And Drink – 11 Unknown Habits That Can Damage Your Kidneys

Healthy kidneys are essential to a healthy body; they filter waste from your blood and allow you to expel it from your body in the form of urine. They regulate the minerals in your body and produce hormones which keep blood pressure down and help to produce red blood cells. However, there are regular habits that can cause damage to kidneys, so it’s important to be aware of how to maintain good kidney health. Here are the 11 habits to keep in mind: 1) Abusing painkillers: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may alleviate your aches and pains, but they can harm the kidneys. They are safe in moderation, but regular overuse can result in kidney damage and total kidney failure. 2) Too much salt: Regularly eating too much salt can cause huge damage to your kidneys as well as other health problems. The kidneys metabolize 95 percent of the sodium consumed through food. When salt intake is high, the kidneys need to work harder to excrete the excess salt. This in turn can lead to decreased kidney functioning, causing water retention in the body. Water retention can cause a hike in blood pressure and increase the risk of developing kidney disease. 3) Eating too much meat: The Kidney Foundation explains that protein derived from meat creates a lot of acid in the blood which can cause acidosis, a condition in which your kidneys can’t get rid of the acid fast enough. Protein is important for a healthy diet but must be balanced out with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. 4) Not drinking enough water: The main function of the kidneys is to flush out metabolic waste from the body and regulate erythrocyte production. When the body lacks sufficient water, this hampers the kidneys’ ability to eliminate toxins from the body. When you’re dehydrated your blood becomes more concentrated, and less flows through your kidneys. 5) Too much alcohol: The toxins found in alcohol not only damage the liver, but also your kidneys. If your kidneys are healthy then it’s okay to drink in moderation but drinking more than four a day has been shown to double your risk of kidney disease. 6) Smoking: Smoking worsens blood pressure and Type 2 Diabetes (the two major causes of kidney disease), and slows blood flow to the kidneys. People who smoke are more likely to have protein in the urine – a sign of kidney damage. 7) Sitting Still: Sitting for long periods of time has now been linked to the development of kidney disease. It is known that greater physical activity is associated with improved blood pressure and glucose metabolism, both important factors in kidney health. 8) Eating Too Many Foods High in Sugar: Sugar contributes to obesity which increases your risk of developing high blood pressure and diabetes, two of the leading causes of kidney disease. Sugar is often added to foods and drinks that you may not consider “sweet.” Avoid condiments, breakfast cereals, and white bread which are all sneaky sources of processed sugar. 9) Missing Out on Sleep: Sleep is vital for any person. It is during this time your body heals and renews itself, including kidney tissues. If you aren’t sleeping enough or the quality of your sleep is bad, it could block your arteries. This raises your blood pressure. Anything that raises your blood pressure can damage your kidney. So, get a good 7-8 hours of sleep every day. 10) Not Treating Infections Quickly: One study found out untreated viral infections could harm your kidneys. The next time you get the flu, make sure to treat it and take the complete course of antibiotics. Also, not taking rest if you have the flu, cold, tonsillitis, or pharyngitis could impact your kidney function. 11) Not Monitoring Your Blood Pressure: It is important to keep track of your blood pressure since hypertension is a leading cause of kidney damage. Keep to the recommended levels set by your doctor and take measures to control any high blood pressure. The level is usually set at under 140/90 mm Hg. These eleven habits are unfortunately common in the modern lifestyle, but it’s vital that we look after our kidneys. And it’s not hard to do: keep fit and active, drink plenty of water, maintain a balanced diet, cut down on the cigarettes and alcohol, and only take over-the-counter medications when really necessary. The most important thing is that we be aware of the consequences so that we are better equipped to make healthy choices.

Having A Bad Time – Checkout The 5 Simple Ways To Overcome A Bad Mood

I recently slipped into a bad mood disorder. Now, to be clear, I didn’t technically have a diagnosable Mood Disorder. Rather, I had a disturbance of mood. Let me explain. My wife Christie and I had just had a tiff. Nothing serious, but I got my feelings hurt. There were several minutes of tension between us, which I hate. I mulled on how I had been wronged, how I was the innocent party and did not deserve her response to me (distortions, of course). As I rehearsed how I had been wronged, I withdrew into silence, pulling away from her. I twisted circumstances, failing to consider what she had intended, what she was feeling and what prompted her to say what she said. No matter. I withdrew into “pouty silence,” becoming more deeply entrenched in my mood disturbance. Of course she could feel my distance. I’m sure my distancing was disconcerting to her as she did not intentionally try to hurt my feelings. My silence, however, created more confusion to our situation. I must be very careful in these situations not to let a bit of conflict — a “molehill” in the great scope of things — turn into an emotional “mountain.” If you’re like me, however, it’s easy to let feeling wronged turn into the proverbial mountain. A slight here, and twisted bit of truth there, rehearsing the distorted facts, and the small problem worsens. Moods, when clearly considered, are distortions of truth. They are facts taken and twisted to suit our ultimate goal — which too often is not to see things clearly. Too often we want to ‘play the victim,’ twist the truth, deny our role in a difficulty or outright malign another. While these tactics may give us moments of satisfaction, they do not help us grow or effectively deal with a challenging situation. The Apostle Paul may have had situations like mine (and yours) in mind when he admonished us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. In fact, he says this: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12: 2). I am quite sure that God’s will is not for me to pout, sulk and withdraw when my feelings are hurt. In fact, I must daily ask God to give me a loving, kind heart and mind, able to effectively discern truth. Likewise, God’s will for me and you is to grow into healthy people like Christ. Let’s consider some other strategies for keeping a healthy mood: One, breathe. Sure, this sounds overly simplistic. However, when agitated we tend to breathe shallow, allowing adrenaline to surge through our bodies which only serves to create tension in us and between us. Breathe. Attempt to calm yourself. Two, step back from your situation. We would do well, in times of stress with another, to step back from the situation. Allow for a little time to pass before responding. Scripture tells us to “be slow to speak and quick to listen” (James 1:19). Three, look at your situation from different angles. Someone has said that if we truly understood the other person there would be no conflict. I have certainly found this to be the case. Seek to listen, reflect and understand where the other person is coming from. What is their perspective and why might they have said what they did? Four, consider your part in the problem. Note that you have many options other than to slip into a bad mood. Notice how a bad mood takes a lot of work—you must ‘play the victim,’ rehearse being wronged and likely amplify and distort the other person’s words or actions. Don’t succumb to a bad mood! Finally, consider the solution. No matter what happened, or who was wrong, consider the solution. What is the problem to be solved? How can you relate to the other person in a way so as to bring harmony? No matter how the other person acts, you are called to live in peace with them and in most cases, you can! Are you prone to ‘mood disturbances?’ Do you tend to jump to conclusions, placing yourself in a ‘self-righteous’ position and finding fault with others? Doing this will not serve you well in the long run. Consider the steps above and work on transforming your mind through the power of Scripture and emotional/ spiritual growth. 7 Collar Jobs Unemployed Nigerian Graduates Can Do Without Stress

Over the last few years, we have witnessed steady job losses, and the trend keeps getting higher. This has resulted to having lots of unemployed Nigerian graduates, who either never had a job or lost them after a while. The need to acquire a skill outside of your job expertise has been over flogged, and those who have visions have keyed into the idea. There are lot of promising blue collar jobs out there, but the issue is having the skill to start up one. Blue collar jobs are jobs that require more of physical energy, than mental energy jobs (White Collar). It doesn’t in no way mean that one pays more than the other. In recent cases, we have seen blue collar workers living comfortably more than the white collar counterparts. Just to keep you abreast, these are some of the blue collar jobs that should earn you a decent living as an unemployed Nigerian graduate. Signage Business As the number of start-ups and rebranding of various firms are on the increase, so is the demand for people with Branding and Signage skills. Remember the saying that “you must start small?” It doesn’t apply to those in the Signage and Branding business. It is always a big hit right from when you land a contract till you execute it. Produce quality, and you end up employing first class students as your employees. Drivers “Oh No!!” must have been the first exclamation that came out from you as soon as you saw it. The average Nigerian fresh graduate earns about 30,000 Naira. This is about 970 Naira per day. An average Driver in any capacity earns a starting salary of 50k per month. Wouldn’t you rather compromise pride for a few months and get those cars on the road! Depending on your agreement with the car owner, places like Lagos would see you earning above 4, 000 Naira daily – how many firms pay such to graduates? Electricians The closet idea to who an Electrician is might be given as someone who studied Electrical/Electronic Engineering – hell no! Majority of Electrical Engineers in Nigeria can design a simple electric circuit, which has given major artisans the space to operate freely. As the number of houses being built is on the increase, Electricians are having a field day in raking in thousands from various contracts. Who cares about an educational degree, when I go to cash out my cheque? Caterers Food  is something that gives us joy in Nigeria. From child dedication to parties to celebrations and others, the only common thing is that we are all eating. No matter the nature of the economy, celebrations must happen and people must eat. The beneficiaries of such celebrations are those who prepare the dishes, eat and still receive bank alerts for cooking and eating. Construction Workers I categorized it everyone found in a construction site under the above heading. They are get fair amount of cash for making sure the building is erected. Millions are being spent daily in erecting buildings in Nigeria, and it ends up in the pockets of these guys. Roofers, Masons, Painters, and every other person found within the site. The average daily pay differs, but believe me that it is higher than what the government or private firms pay most graduates. Real Estate Agents Ever thought of making your first Million in just a month? This job gives you that opportunity. It is all GREEN in the real estate business. If you can’t be the landlord of the house, you can become the agent for the house. Real Estate agents are making a huge killing in Nigeria, and graduates without a job yet should consider this sector!! It is all GREEN and looks like being GREEN for so many years to come. No matter your location, selling, leasing and renting out houses are a low key way to rake in thousands of Naira just in day. Hardware Engineers Glad you are about to know that Hardware Repairs is the new goldmine. There are hundreds of people every day with several laptop faults, and they need technicians to fix them. Not just that; companies are in need of experienced Engineers, who will take up the job role of maintaining, Troubleshooting, and repairing their computer installations. The question now is “Who will do the job among thousands of graduates looking for jobs or those who are underpaid?” If you are an unemployed Nigerian graduate still waiting and hoping for a job to come, you should take the bull by the horn. There are several skills you can pick up today and make money like by doing things you love doing. Bye, till we meet again!

I’m Jealous Of The Current Set Of Players, Says Jay Jay Okocha

Austin Okocha, former Super Eagles skipper, says he is jealous of the current set of players. Okocha, who was once African football’s most expensive player, said this in an interview with CNN Sports. Fondly referred to as JJ, the skilful player said he felt glad being among the best during his active soccer days. Okocha, who retired from football in 2008. “I am jealous of the players now. But it’s always good to know you were amongst the best during your time and that’s all you can hope for,” he said. “I don’t look at what the market is today because that was our mission — to get football to another level — to open doors for the next generation. It gives me a lot of joy to see where football is now.” The 44-year old also revealed that he would love to play with the world’s most expensive player Neymar at Paris Saint-Germain. Okocha had a stint with PSG during his soccer career. “It would be an honour to be in the same dressing room as a player like Neymar. “It would be in my interest to have great players around me because, if you’re playing with good players, it makes your job a lot easier. “He had a good life in Barcelona, playing with a good team. But then he realised he wants to achieve more, he wants to be his own person and for him to achieve that, he has to move. “Luckily for him, he moved to a very formidable team — a team that is so ambitious — and also trying to get to the next level. It’s a perfect move for him.”

‘I’m Tired Of Fans Criticising Me’- Real Madrid Star Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, has hit back at his critics and expressed surprise that he continually has to prove himself to the fans. Ronaldo silenced his critics after stepping up again with a double for the Blancos. The Portuguese scored twice to help Madrid secure a 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday. The 32-year-old’s domestic return has not gone as planned as he is unable to net in two La Liga games since retun from suspension. But the Portugal captain said he is getting tired of the constant criticism as he had already proven himself. He told Atresmedia after netting his 400th goal for Madrid, “It seems that I have to keep showing exactly who I am in every match. “I am surprised by what the public thinks of me, my numbers speak for themselves, I am an exemplary professional and I always have a clear mind. “The criticism is getting worse.” Ronaldo said the team stepped up which led to the winning at Dortmund for the first time. He added, “Before the game we spoke about how much we wanted to win in Dortmund. “We did what the coach told us, the team has been phenomenal, creating opportunities and it isn’t easy to score three goals here. “We played well.”

Atletico Madrid Players Train Ahead Of Champions League Clash Against Chelsea (Photos)

Antoine Griezmann has trained with his Atletico Madrid team-mates ahead of their Champions League clash with Chelsea as their new Wanda Metropolitano home prepares to make its European bow on Wednesday. The Atletico Madrid players seemed keen not to exert too much energy ahead of the tie as they took part in a light training session on Tuesday afternoon. Diego Simeone’s squad were pictured gathering round in a circle to work on some stretching exercises before moving on to some balancing and passing techniques as Griezmann and Angel Correa stood on top of a stepper and volleyed the ball back to their partners. Atletico have already won both the games they’ve played at their new stunning 67,000 capacity stadium and Simeone will be eager to improve on that record against the Blues as he looks to make it a fortress, just as they had done at the Vicente Calderon. Agitators Must Abide By Nigeria’s Constitution – Saraki

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has advised all agitators in the country to pursue their interest through constitutional means. The Federal lawmakers which have been away for their annual recess for seven-week resumed plenary session on Tuesday. After a three-hour closed-door meeting during which they discussed some national issues, Saraki said part of the resolutions reached by the Senate is that the Unity of Nigeria not negotiable and all forms of agitation should be channeled through constitutional means. “The unity of Nigeria is non-negotiable. We are all fully committed to the territorial integrity of our country. The Senate will seek all possible avenues to make sure that peace is restored in all parts of Nigeria. “Finally the Senate hereby advise that all groups seeking to pursue any agitation should do so through constitutional means.” Saraki said the unity of Nigeria is the responsibility of all Nigerians and members of the country must jointly condemn in strongest possible terms all forms of violence. “Distinguished colleagues, a house divided against itself will not stand. More than ever before, we must stand for the unity in the visibility of our country. We must condemn in strongest possible terms all forms of violence as a form of engagement. “The constitution and the law has laid down tools and procedures for us to pursue our interest as all democratic nations do.” During the plenary that followed, the Senate also considered a motion on the inadequate releases of funds for the capital component of the 2017 appropriation act.

INEC Serves Melaye With Recall Notice, As Senator Locks Out Bailiff

Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) this morning at the National Assembly in Abuja formally served Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West constituency) the notice of his recall instituted by his constituents. The INEC legal team and court bailiff arrived at Melaye’s Room 213 office at about 11:00 a.m. with four bags containing petitions from the various local governments involved. But the office was under lock and key, as the staff, having got wind of the visit, had quickly scurried away. As of the time of filing this story, the documents had been left in front of the office, as the INEC officials could not get in. But while they were waiting, a group of Melaye loyalists arrived and started to query and challenge those who had dropped the bags, a situation that nearly resulted in fisticuffs. Meanwhile, the Senate was in a plenary session while the bailiff and other officials from INEC laid siege at the lobby of the National Assembly waiting for the Senator to come out of the chamber to enable them to serve him in person. Speaking to journalists at the weekend, the controversial senator claimed that the window provided by the constitution for the service of the recall petition on him had elapsed. “I would not be seen to be breaching the law,” he said. The senator’s stance comes despite the fact that it was the suit he filed at the court that eventually led to INEC suspending the recall process before the Federal High Court asked that it be continued.

APC Showing Signs Of Sickness, Says Former Osun Assembly Majority Leader

A former Majority Leader of the Osun State House of Assembly, Wahab Olatoye, has described the recent verbal war between Professor Itse Sagay, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), and the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as sign that the party is seriously ill. Mr. Olatoye, in a press statement, said the APC needs to be quickly rescued if an electoral disaster in the 2019 general elections is to be averted. “The scathing statements against the leadership of the party by Professor Itse Sagay, to a large extent reflects the view of many Nigerians. The assertion by Professor Sagay that the APC leadership is made up of unprincipled characters and ‘rogue elephants that go about destroying what they should otherwise protect’ is on point,” said Mr. Olatoye. Given that the party campaigned on an agenda of change, the former legislator said it was surprising that the APC opened its doors to discredited politicians for financial gains. That action, he explained, is the reason for the party’s derailment, a situation symptomized by a lack of synergy between the APC and the government it is running. “The APC has become a shadow of itself and has alienated most of its founding members and early joiners who, in 2014, were of the view that a responsible platform for national rebirth had arrived. The party has become a herd of sheep, whose shepherd is asleep or has gone astray going by the fact that no organ of the party ever meets to deliberate on party or national issues,” he said. This, he added, has resulted in gross indiscipline among members. The politician said the situation in the APC is more pathetic because its members are still in the grip of delirium since the electoral victory of 2015, while the ousted Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has started rebuilding. He warned that the APC might discover in 2019 that it is ill-prepared for contest against a resurgent PDP. “The task before all those who love the party, is to move without delay, if possible, to arrest the prevailing leadership incompetence, confusion and intimacy with unbridled corruption which has estranged the original stakeholders of the party, and rendered the latter impotent,” he stated.

Unpaid salaries: Kogi workers beg President Buhari for alms

Workers in Kogi have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to rescue them from their current hardship resulting from non-payment of their salaries, by sending them food, drugs and other materials. The workers made the appeal on Wednesday in Lokoja in a statement jointly issued by the state chapters of the NLC, TUC and the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC). Messrs Olakunle Faniyi, Kolawole James and Isah Abubakar, Secretaries of NLC, TUC and JPSNC respectively, signed the statement which was circulated to media houses. According to them, Buhari should direct the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other humanitarian agencies to supply them food and the relief materials. The civil servants said they were being owed between 11 and 21 months salaries and that the situation had adversely affected them and their families. They urged the presidency to consider the condition of their children who had been sent out of schools because they could no longer pay their school fees. “The situation of workers in the state is worse than the condition of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in various camps. “The agony of the workers is not in any way less than the experiences of victims of natural disasters. ”A situation where workers cannot afford even one meal a day and pay the school fees of their children is already a humanitarian issue. “As it stands today, over 30 per cent of the workforce is owed 21 months salaries. ”Twenty (20) per cent have unpaid salaries of between 11 and 18 months while about 45 per cent took their salaries up till June this year. ”These are the category of workers the Kogi State Government is forcing to embrace the ‘clock-in, clock-out’ work policy,” they said. The civil servants also implored the indigenes of the state at home and abroad to show concern and assist in whatever form they could. Workers in the state had on Sept. 22 embarked upon an indefinite strike to press home their demand for payment of their salary arrears. Contacted, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, a media aide to Gov. Yahaya Bello, said that government had yet to enter into negotiation with labour over the demand. The Director General, Media and Publicity, said this was because the signatories to the strike notice were unknown to government. Fanwo faulted labour’s claim on salary arrears, saying that they were out to misinform the public for selfish reasons. He urged workers to disregard the labour’s directive to go on strike but continue to go to work.

Cameroon sends Nigerians packing

Cameroon has deported 100,000 Nigerian refugees in the hope of stemming the spread of terrorist group Boko Haram, Human Rights Watch (HWR) said on Wednesday. The group said in its new report that the deportation defied a plea by UN refugee agency to not return anyone to north-eastern Nigeria, where Boko Haram killed thousands of people, until security and human rights situation improved considerably.” The HRW report noted that the deported people were likely to face new violence, displacement and destitution. The group, which investigates allegations of human rights abuses worldwide, says the report is based on interviews with more than 60 refugees. It added that soldiers tortured, assaulted and sexually exploited Nigerian asylum seekers and denied them access to the UN refugee agency. The rights group claimed Cameroon deported, often violently, tens of thousands of the refugees since early 2015. “The Cameroonian military torture and abuse of Nigerian refugees seems to be driven by an arbitrary decision to punish them for Boko Haram attacks in Cameroon and to discourage Nigerians from seeking asylum,” said HRW Associate Refugee Director, Gerry Simpson. Boko Haram had posed steady threat to communities in north-east Nigeria and launched offensives in neighbouring Cameroon, Chad and Niger. The group’s goal is to enforce strict interpretation of Islamic law, known as sharia. Since 2009, tens of thousands of people have died in the hands of Sunni fundamentalists in the region. According to the UN, an estimated 2.7 million people fled their homes due to Boko Haram.

Top chieftain of the main opposition party in Nigeria, Mantu has urged the party to redirect its affairs towards serving the people well. A former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ibrahim Mantu, has pronounced himself as a born-again politician. Mantu said whatever he now says is the truth and urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party to believe him. Mantu spoke at the ongoing declaration by Prof. Tunde Adeniran to lead the party as its national chairman ahead of the party’s convention slated for December 9 in Abuja. The former deputy Senate president said he had fasted for 30 days during which he said God told him that party must pick Adeniran. He said, “I’m now born again, whatever I say now is the truth. “Some people came to the PDP with nothing and left with billions. We need to bring the party to the people now. We need to be sober and apologise for what we have done wrong in the past. “After fasting and prayer, I fasted for 30 days and night asking God to show me who would lead the party. God showed me Adeniran. “Let’s now look forward and made sure that we elect a credible chairman. We should make sure that nobody shortchanged us at the national convention.”
