University Of Ibadan, UI Admits 3,783 Out Of 56,172 Applicants For 2017/2018 Academic Session To Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB)

The University of Ibadan on Wednesday said it recommended 3, 783 candidates to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for admission for the 2017/2018 academic session. The Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC), Academics, Prof. Adeyinka Aderinto, disclosed this at a briefing with newsmen on Wednesday in Ibadan. He said the figure was out of the 56,172 applicants who chose the university through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry. According to Aderinto, the admission for 2017/2018 will end in January 2018, while screening of those already issued admission letters will soon commence. The DVC, who noted that a total of 26, 769 candidates who scored 200 and above sat for the Post-UTME of the university, added that out of the number, only 9,268 scored 50 per cent and above. Aderinto said 3,783, who were finally recommended to JAMB for admission met the approved admission criteria. He said the university was committed to upholding its standards in admission.  This is what makes us who we are in offering qualitative education to our students to be the best in Nigeria and have the capacity to compete globally. According to the ranking, out of over hundred ranked university in Nigeria, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria came out top, beating University of Lagos, and Obafemi Awolowo University to second and third place respectively. Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, OAU Begin Lectures, Urges Students To Prepare For Examination After 1 Month Closure

A month after Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife was forced to close due to the strike by non-teaching workers embarked upon in December, lectures officially began in the institution on Friday. A student of the institution, Demola Ayinde said, “CHM102 held today and were told to start preparing for exam. Exam may be starting this month according to my lecturer. ” Another student who identified herself as Bimbo said: “I attended Yoruba class today.” The Dean of Student Affairs, Isiska Aransi confirmed to newsmen on Friday that the second-semester examination for 2016/2017 session would begin on January 29, following approval of the senate. “The calendar has been reviewed,” he said. As at the time of filing this report, electricity and water supplies had been restored to halls of residence. Both the health centre and the library opened. Before Friday, these services had been cut by the striking non-teaching workers. It is not immediately how the management was able to restore the services, after the Non-Academic Staff Union, the body of workers responsible for them, vowed not to resume work unless their grievances over the sharing of the earned allowances are addressed.
