Rapper, Skales roared on an Instagram user who called him out for refusing to wish former label mate, Wizkid a happy birthday yesterday.

An Instagram user, @officialdjblack commented on Skales’ post and tried to tag the rapper a hater. Skales quickly curved the comment saying he has no beef with Wizkid but rather he is just trying to stay in his lane.

Fayose inaugurates presidential campaign

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has abandoned his desire to seek reelection in 2018. Instead, he has launched his presidential campaign on Facebook.

Fayose had initially said he would approach the Supreme Court to determine his eligibility to run again for the office of governor of his state because of his inability to finish his first term in office.

The governor, whose impeachment then had been declared null and void by the apex court, had said there was need to finish his first four years in office.

Fayose, who is the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, was one of the two governors in the party who spoke vehemently against the continued stay in office of the former National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.

Ironically, the governor was also among the few governors who brought the former governor of Borno State to the office of the national chairman of the former ruling party.

The PDP had zoned the position of the party’s presidential candidate to the northern part of the country.

It is, however, not clear if the party would go back on this, but analysts believed that Fayose could be positioning himself for the position of running mate for the party’s presidential candidate.

The three organs of the party, which are the Expanded National Caucus, Board of Trustees and the National Executive Committee are meeting in Abuja in Monday and Tuesday.

59.22% pass Maths, English as WAEC releases results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has released the May/June WASSCE results, withholding results of 13.79 per cent candidates as 59.22 per cent pass English Language and Mathematics.

WASSEC candidate Speaking at a press briefing held at its corporate office, Yaba, Lagos on Monday, Head of National Office, Nigeria, Mr Olu Adenipekun said the performance results recorded this year improved over the 2015 and 2016 WASSCE.
Justifying the relative success performance of candidates in 2017, Adenipekun noted that the percentage WASSCE results for school candidates in 2015 and 2016 were 38.68% and 52.97%, respectively He said: ”A total of 923,486 (nine hundred and twenty three thousand four hundred and eighty six) candidates, representing 59.22%, obtained minimum of credits in five (5) subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics.”

According to him, the results of 214,952 (two hundred and fourteen thousand, nine hundred and fifty two) candidates, representing 13.79% of the total candidature for the examination are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.

He explained that the cases of examination malpractice are being investigated, adding that reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate committee of the Council in due course for consideration. He disclosed that a total of 1,559,162 (One Million Five Hundred and Fifty Nine Thousand One Hundred and Sixty Two) candidates sat the examination.

He said: ”Out of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, 1,471,151 (One Million Four Hundred and Seventy One Thousand One Hundred and Fifty One) candidates, representing 94.36% have their results fully processed and released, while 95,734 (ninety five thousand seven hundred and thirty four) candidates, representing 5.64% have a few of their subjects still being processed due to errors traceable to the candidates in the course of registration or writing the examination. Such errors are being corrected by the Council to enable the affected candidates get their results fully processed and released subsequently.

In the analysis of the results, he said: ”Of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, 1,490,356 (one million four hundred and ninety thousand three hundred and fifty six) candidates, representing 95.59% obtained credits and above in two (2) subjects. ”1,436,024 (one million four hundred and thirty six thousand twenty four) candidates, representing 92.44% obtained credits and above in three (3) subjects. ”1,357,193 (one million three hundred and fifty seven thousand one hundred and ninety three) candidates, representing 87.05% obtained credits and above in four (4) subjects. ”1,243,772 (one million two hundred and forty three thousand seven hundred and seventy two) candidates, representing 79.77% obtained credits and above in five (5) subjects. ”1,084,214 (one million eighty four thousand two hundred and fourteen) candidates, representing 69.54% obtained credits and above in six (6) subjects.”

He urged candidates who sat the examination to check details of their performance on the Council’s results website: www.waecdirect.org within the next few hours. ”The result checker PIN and Serial Number are contained on the flip side of the candidates’ CIVAMPENS Card issued to all candidates by WAEC, and used by them during the conduct of the examination,” he added.

JAMB Exam body remits over N5b to FG, says it is highest amount in 40 years

Following the conclusion of its annual exams for admission seekers, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board has remitted over N5b Naira to the Federal Government.
This amount according to a statement signed by the Board’s Head of Media, Dr. Fabian Benjamin and made available to newsmen is the highest remittance in 40 years of existence of the exam body.
The statement which was released in Abuja stated that JAMB was able to remit such amount because of its transparency and judicious use of resources and that it is not interested in candidates’ money as being insinuated in some quarters.

“The Board is not interested in the candidates’ money as being insinuated by certain group who suggested to the Board that such registration will enhance the revenue base of the Board. No, we are more interested in the sanctity of the examination and not the money. If money is our concern we would not be returning over N5 billion to the Federal Government coffers.
“This year, we have remitted to the government over 5 billion Naira, the highest ever in the 40 years of the Board. This money was saved through the transparent and judicious use of resources”, the statement reads in part.
The board, however, warned candidates not to indulge in multiple registrations in both Direct Entry and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), saying it won’t condone such practices.

“The public is requested to note that any candidate who indulges in double registration will be caught by our software and disqualified. This information is necessary for the public to know so that when such candidates are sanctioned it will be understood”
The release also stated that the Prof. Is-haq Oloyede led management is working to ensure transparent, acceptable and fair admission process and also advised students to take caution so as not to fall victim of fraudsters.

In Ebonyi Govt to close down unapproved private schools

Prof. John Eke, Ebonyi Commissioner for Education, says the government will close down any private school in the state operating without an approved licence.
Eke who spoke on Monday in Abakaliki in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the planned closure was part of efforts to clean up the education sector.
He said that the state government was committed to promoting qualitative education for the Ebonyi child, and stressed that the Ministry of Education was compiling the list of such schools.
He added that the fight against the existence of illegal and substandard schools in the state would be sustained in order to secure an enduring future for the children.
The commissioner said it was criminal for anyone to establish and operate a school in the state without going through the laid down procedure for obtaining approval.
“It is the licence that you validly secure from the ministry of education as a school proprietor that qualifies you to open and operate a school in the state.”
“We are not in a lawless state. There is law and order which moderate the behaviour and actions of individuals.”
“It is therefore against the law of the state to establish and operate any school, including nursery, primary and secondary, without an enabling licence issued by the ministry,” he said.
Eke, however, commended the participation of private individuals and corporate bodies, including the church, in providing education in the state.
The commissioner urged them to ensure that they complied with the extant laws for establishing schools.
He said that it was the inalienable right of the child to have access to quality education, adding that private schools must provide environment conducive for proper teaching and learning.
“School business is not like the normal business where the owner has a mindset of profit maximisation. It goes beyond that.”
“The school is a place for character molding where the totality of the live of the child including the mental, emotional, spiritual, social and cultural aspects, are shaped.”
“That is why we are being careful while screening applications for issuance of operational licences for prospective school proprietors.”
“We also carry out periodic review through monitoring and evaluation of schools to ensure that they are complying with the set standards,” he said.
He urged those operating schools without genuine licences as well as those intending to open new ones, to obtain the necessary guidelines from the ministry of education.
He further appealed to the state chapter of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), to assist government in checking the establishment of unlicensed schools.

FG stops discrimination between Bsc and HND degree holders

For years, the distinction between holders of University degrees and Higher National Diploma (HND) has been a bone of contention.

Now, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has stepped in to put an end to it.
Punch reports that the Federal Government has ensured that there is no difference in the salary at entry points between both degree holders in all the Para-military services.

At a meeting chaired by the Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, the board approved for all officers with HND to be upgraded to COMPASS 08, the salary grade level for BSC holders at the entry point.

The regularisation of the salaries was announced on July 13, 2017, by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji.
It read: “The board directed that all officers with HND to be upgraded to COMPASS 08, which is the salary grade level for holders of degree certificates at the entry point.
“While the nomenclature for the HND holders will start with the rank of Senior Inspector, the degree holders are with the rank of Assistant Superintendent II.”
The chairman of the committee, Sen Binta Garba, said: “Again what we are doing as a committee on the tertiary institution; we are trying to come out with a conference on legislative agenda on education. We are trying to look at all other summits on education, trying to look at policies of government on education and trying to see how we can have a balance.”

Naij reports that the minister’s statement also revealed that Buhari’s administration is going to ensure that the degrees acquired at universities, polytechnics and colleges are all equally important and treated as such.

Nigeria Gradually Gets Out Of Recession (See Details)

The Nigerian Naira on Monday, July 17, maintained its strength at the parallel market as it stayed unchanged against the Dollar, Pound Sterling and Euro.

According to NAIJ.com’s findings, the local currency closed the day at N367, N470 and N420 against the Dollar, Pound Sterling and the Euro respectively.

This comes even as President, Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON), Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, disclosed that the nation’s currency would remain stable in the months to come as long as the CBN sustains its interventions at forex market.

Gwadabe said that the sustained injection of liquidity to the nation’s foreign exchange market had paralysed the activities of speculators.

He described the calculated interventions of the apex bank since February as one of the greatest onslaughts to the camp of currency speculators in the recent past.

Since the Naira dropped to a record low of N520/$1 in February, the CBN has injected a total of $7.8 billion into the foreign exchange market.

In February the apex bank injected $680 million into the market, $1.542 billion in March; $1.616 billion in April; $2.102 billion in May; and $1.436 billion in June and $390 million in the first week of July.

Meanwhile, the National Bureau of Statistics in a report released on Monday July 17, revealed that the Nigeria is gradually coming out of recession as Inflation in June 2017 declines again for 5th consecutive month.

According to the bureau, inflation measured by the Consumer Price Index, fell to 16.10 per cent, lower than 16.25 per cent rate recorded in May.
