UNIABUJA Gets Approval To Graduate Medical Students After 13 Years

The University of Abuja (UniAbuja) has received approval from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) to prepare its medical students for the final MBBS examinations. This is coming 13 years after the university’s commencement of the medical programme. The UniAbuja medical school which took off in 2005 has witnessed series of crisis over the non-accreditation of its courses. According to a statement issued yesterday by the Acting Registrar of the council, Dr. Tajudeen Sanusi, the approval was sequel to the final accreditation visit to the university by the MDCN on November 1, 2017. The statement added that the situation changed two years ago with the provision of required facilities leading to the approval by the MDCN. The council urged the university to proceed with the processes leading to the final MBBS examinations for its students. It also directed that “You must notify council to send observers to the examinations at the appropriate time.” In another development, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the interim accreditation of the Computer Science and Microbiology courses of the university. Director of Accreditation of NUC, Dr. Noel B. Saliu, while conveying the commission’s updated review of the May/June 2017 accreditation results to the university in a letter, said the interim accreditation status was valid for two years after which the programmes would be revisited.

Fayose lists reasons why Buhari is Nigeria’s worst president ever (See Reasons)

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has asserted that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government is the most corrupt in the history of Nigeria. Fayose made the allegation while accusing the President of “treating corruption involving his men as family affair.” In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the Governor wondered why the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, finds it difficult to go after those close to the President but are always quick to prosecute Nigerians opposing Buhari. According to Fayose, “When miscreants write petitions to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against perceived opponents of President Buhari, EFCC will act immediately, but when known Nigerians, including members of Buhari’s government raise allegation of corruption against close allies of the President, the EFCC will look the other way. “As posited by APC Senator, Shehu Sani, we are in a situation where perfume is being sprayed on corruption when it affects Buhari’s men while insecticide is being sprayed on corruption when it involves perceived political opponents of the President. “When allegation of corruption is made against Buhari’s men, EFCC acts like pet dog, but when it is against those whose faces the President does not like, the anti-graft agency acts like lion. “No nation can achieve greatness with such a partial leadership. “While Nigerians are still asking questions as to what has happened to the report of the committee that investigated the $43 million discovered in an apartment at Osbourne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, allegation of $25 billion was made by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, and as usual, the allegation like others before it, is being treated as family affairs. “Before now, the Acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu was indicted of corruption by the Department of State Service (DSS) and all that was done by President Buhari was to ask the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to investigate the DSS report. Up till today, nothing has been heard about it and Magu, despite his rejection by the Senate, is still acting as the EFCC chairman. “Up till today, Nigerians are yet to be told the owner of the Legico Shopping Plaza, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos inside which the EFCC claimed that it found N448.8 million cash. “Despite the presence of CCTV cameras, we have not been told the identities of those who brought the five sacks in which the EFCC claimed that it found N49 million cash to the Kaduna Airport. “As far as I am concerned, President Buhari is not fighting any corruption. He is fighting his political foes and God is not a God of double-standard. This Buhari’s government is a government of double-standard.”

Your alliance will end in futility – Oyo APC blasts PDP

Oyo State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has predicted that the ongoing alignment of forces among the opposition politicians in the state ahead of the 2019 elections will end up in futility. APC stated that in view of the involvement of people like former governor, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, the alliance will not see the light of the day. Leaderships of the opposition political parties recently started talks geared towards evolving an alignment with a view to dislodging the ruling APC in 2019 using the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Notable among the parties are; Accord, Social Democratic Party, SDP, Labour Party, LP and the PDP. But APC in a statement on Saturday by its Public Relations Officer (PRO), Olawale Sadare while reacting to the alliance dismissed the threat of any alignment or re-alignment by the opposition in the state as incapable of dislodging “a governing party that has distinguished itself as the only vehicle of good governance, peace and wholesome development desired by the majority of the people of Nigeria including the good citizens of the Pacesetter State.” Sadare said, “What they are planning is a civilian coup against the electorate but it would not see the light of the day for many reasons. Most characters involved in the gang-up have had opportunities in the past to impact positively on the lives of the people but they failed as a result of incurable traits of incompetence, selfishness and cluelessness. “For instance, Sen. Ladoja who we can call the arrowhead was on a private radio on Saturday and all he succeeded in doing was display of his crass ignorance of workings of government, democracy and the rule of law. Those who monitored the interview saw in Ladoja a 73 year-old former governor who still would not come out bold on his ambition to contest the 2019 election. “Ladoja said that his own idea of regional integration is about Ondo State sharing its crude oil resources with Oyo State or Lagos State sharing its internally generated revenue earnings with other south west states. He also stated that the newly established Technical University in Ibadan would not see the light of the day for no reasons just like he revealed that he had to back out of an alliance with the present administration when he could not influence the Gov. Ajimobi’s decision. What a man! “Among the co-travelers is a Sen. Olufemi Lanlehin who has a penchant for sneaking into Ibadan from his Lagos abode to cause political mischief like he did at the Olubadan palace few days ago only to run back immediately. Or are we to talk about a politically naive big spender and some troubled EFCC guests as capable of combining misplaced efforts to dislodge the APC in 2019? “Above all, the PDP with which most of them looted the treasury at various times between 1999 and 2015 is dead and buried as it must be emphasized that Nigerians would not support any alignment, re-alignment or gang-up from the same set of fake characters in the future elections. Sponsors of such comedy and those planning to benefit from it should realize that it would end up in futility”.
