Application are welcomed from suitably qualified candidates for admission into Kogi State Polytechnic Higher National Diploma (HND) Full-Time/Part-Time programmes for 2017/2018 academic session.  The Polytechnic offers the following courses:- 1.0 SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES Higher National Diploma in: a. Accountancy b. Business Administration c. Public Administration d. Office Technology and Management e. Library and Information Science 1 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS a. Higher National Diploma in Accountancy (Two Years) Candidates must possess National Diploma in Financial Studies and related programmes and must have a minimum of lower credit (CGPA) of 2.50 and five credits at 0/L (NECO, WASC/SSCE/GCE/NABTEC) at not more than two sittings which must include English Language and Mathematics. In addition candidates must have a minimum of one (1) year compulsory Industrial Training or a pass in ND result with 2 Years compulsory Industrial Training attachment. Transcript is required for admission into all HND programmes, especially for candidates from other institution. b. Higher National Diploma in Business Administration (Two Years) Same as in (1.1a) above, but qualification must be National Diploma in Business Studies and related Programmes. c. Higher National Diploma in Public Administration ( Two Years) Same as (1.1a) above but qualification must be National Diploma in Public Administration and at least a credit pass in Government. d. Higher National Diploma in Office Technology and Management (Two Years) Same as in (1.1.a) above but qualification must be National Diploma in Office Technology and Management. e. Higher National Diploma in Library and Information Science (Two Years) Same as in (1.1.a) above but qualification must be National Diploma in Library and Information Science and at least a credit pass in one science subject. f. National Diploma Special (NDS) ENTRY REQUIRMENTS (i) National Diploma Special (NDS) in Accountancy Candidates must have five credits in the SSCE, NECO, or WASC which must include English, Mathematics and any three of the following; Biology, Geography, Economics Government, Commerce, Bible Knowledge. History Agricultural Science in addition, Candidates must posses Diploma in Public Accounting and Auditing. (ii) National Diploma Special (NDS) in Public Administration Same as f (i) above but candidates must posses Diploma in Public Administration. 2.0 SCHOOL OF APPLIED SCIENCES Higher National Diploma in a. Statistics b. Science Laboratory Technology c. Computer Science 2.1 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS a. Higher National Diploma in Statistics (Two Years) Candidates must possess National Diploma in Statistics and must have a minimum of lower credit(CGPA) of 2.50 and five credits at O/L (NECO/WASC/GCE/NABTEC) at not more than two sittings which must include English Language Mathematics, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agric Science. In Addition, candidates must have a minimum of one (1) year compulsory Industrial Training or a pass in ND result with two years Industrial Training attachment. Transcript is required for admission into all HND programmes, especially for candidates from other institution. b. Higher National Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology (Two Years) With options in Chemistry,Biochemistry and Environmental Biology. Same as (2,1a) but qualification must be National Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology. c. Higher National Diploma in Computer Science(Two Years) Candidate must possess National Diploma in Computer Science and must have a minimum of lower credit (CGPA) OF 2.50 and five credit at O/L (NECO/WASC/GCE/NABTEC TECHNICAL TRADE) at not more than two sitting. English Language, Mathematics and Physics is compulsory at credit level. In addition, a credit in any other science subject and Social Science subject is also required in addition, (1) year compulsory Industrial Training or a pass in ND result with two years compulsory industrial training attachment. 3.0 SCHOOL OF ART DESIGN AND PRINTING (i) Higher National Diploma programme (HND) in Industrial Design with Options in Graphics, Textiles and Ceramics. (ii) Higher National Diploma Programme (HND) in Fine Arts with Options in Painting and Sculpture. ENTRY REQUIRMENTS Candidates for the Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in Industrial Design with Options in Graphics, Textiles and Ceramics must possess the following: (a) A minimum of Lower Credit (CGPA) of 2.50 and five credits at O/L (NECO, WASC/SSCE/NABTEC) at not more than two sittings which must include English Language, Mathematics, Fine Arts or Visual Arts,. Chemistry, Geography, History, Biology, Literature in English, Clothing and Textiles, Religious Knowledge and any other Sciences. In addition, candidates must have a minimum of one (1) year compulsory Industrial Training or a pass in ND result with two (2) years compulsory Industrial Training attachment. (b ) Higher National Diploma Programme (HND) in Fine Arts with Options in Painting and Sculpture. Same as (3a) above. 4.0 SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY 4.1 Higher National Diploma In Mineral Resources Engineering (Two Years) With options in the following: a. Mining Engineering Technology b. Geological Engineering Technology c. Mineral processing Engineering Technology. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Candidates must possess National Diploma in Mineral Resources Engineering with a minimum of Lower credit and five credits at O/L (NECO /WASC/ SSCE/GCE/ NABTEC not more than two sittings which must include Mathematics Chemistry, and any three subjects from Metal-work Technical-Drawing, Basic Electronics, Geography , Statistics, Additional Mathematics and a credit pass in English Language. In addition with one year compulsory Industrial Training or a pass in ND result with two years Industrial Training attachment. 4.2 Higher National Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering (Two Years). ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Same as (4.1a) but qualification must be National Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering. 5.0 SCHOOL OF ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY Higher National Diploma in : Urban and Regional Planning ENTRY REQUIRMENTS (i) Candidate must possess National Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning and must have a minimum of lower credit pass (CGPA 2.50) and five credits pass in NECO/WASC/NABTEC/ANTCwith credit pass in relevant subject to the programme, i.e., Mathematics, English Language, Geography and two subjects from the followings; Economics, Technical Drawing, Statistics and one Science subject from Chemistry, Physics. Biology/Agric Science, Fine Art. (ii) Five credits pass in relevant subjects obtained at the final examination of an NBTE recognized Preliminary ND programme offered in a Polytechnic or similar post-secondary Technical Institution. (iii) A minimum of One year compulsory Industrial Training or a pass in ND result with two years compulsory Industrial Training attachment. In exceptional cases, ND holders with a pass (CGPA of 2.00-2.49) and two or more years of cognate experience in the specific field may be considered for admission into HND programmes. Federal Government finally speaks on plans to islamise Nigeria

The Federal Government has faulted the claims by the Christian Association of Nigeria that there are underground plan to Islamise the country with the recent issuance of its N100bn Sukuk bond. The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, said this on the sidelines of an investor conference organised by Stanbic IBTC Bank in Lagos. The Christian Association of Nigeria had last week kicked against the floating of the SUKUK Islamic bond by the Federal Government. It alleged that the move has further confirmed its fears that the government was planning to Islamise the country through the back door Reacting, however, Adeosun stated that several countries of the world, including South Africa had issued sukuk bonds in the past, and Nigeria’s plan to issue the sukuk bond started about six years ago, long before the current administration came into power. Adeosun said, ‘’Sukuk is part of our programme to deepen the financial market. Interestingly, it predated us. The committee started work in 2011. So, they have been working on it for six years, to structure products that would be compliant. Really, the Sukuk is about two things -one is about raising money and deepening the financial market. “We need to include many people in the market to raise the money that is needed for infrastructure. We have already introduced the savings bond which is for small investors. They were saying that the process of getting into government securities was too complex. “So, we made the product for them. And this is another product. We have other products that we are coming up with. So, there is no religious driver behind it. It is really a financial product to meet financial needs.” She added, “This particular one of N100bn is going to be used for road projects. We have identified the road projects that it is going to be tied to and there is no religious attachment to it. South Africa even did a sovereign Sukuk before Nigeria. So, there is no Islamisation agenda at all.” The minister said not every investor wanted to put their money into regular bonds and Treasury bills and, as such, there was the need to get everyone on board. On concerns that the funds raised from Sukuk must be used for Sharia-compliant activities strictly, the minister said, “That is part of what is called the ethical investment. A lot of people for example, don’t want their funds invested in particular items such breweries, among others. “Funny, a lot of investors that we have been marketing the bond to are just looking at the yield. So, it is really just another product which we hope would deepen the market and bring more people in. Not everybody wants to do bond or treasury bills. And we are still going to bring out many more products.”

World’s oldest woman dies in Jamaica (See Age)

The world’s oldest person Violet Brown has died in Jamaica at the age of 117 years and 189 days old. Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness has expressed his condolences in a Facebook post, calling her “an inspiring woman.” The woman known as “Aunt V” died Friday at a local hospital, where she had been treated for heart arrhythmia and dehydration. With her death, the Gerontology Research Group lists Nabi Tajima of Japan was the oldest surviving person. She was born on Aug. 4, 1900. Brown spent much of her life cutting sugar cane. She remained active in her church until recently and credited her longevity to hard work and her Christian faith. She had four sons and two daughters. Her eldest son died in April at age 97.
