A shocking video of a Nigerian pastor kneeling down to beg three Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) officers on the road has gone viral on social media. The pastor who was seen wearing a black priest cassock complete with the white collar for the robe. In the video, the priest was seen kneeling beside the blue FRSC car known to all while the three officers watched him. The officers were heard telling the priest to stand up as they walked away from him. Non-Academic Staff Of Union Of Universities (NASU) Suspended 11 Days Strike

This is to inform the general public that the non-academic staff of union of universities (NASU) have suspended its eleven days old strike. The staff, members of three unions, NASU, SSANU, and NAAT, announced the suspension of the 11 days old strike on Thursday. Sam Ugwoke, the national president of the Joint Action Committee of three unions, announced the suspension at a media briefing in Abuja. Mr. Ugwoke said the strike was being suspended for a month to allow the government meet their demands. He enjoined government to “ensure compliance” with agreements reached with the unions. The government and the staff reached an agreement after several hours of meeting in the early hours of Thursday. At the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the federal government delegation led by the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige. Mr. Ngige had earlier said both parties produced “collective agreement of action” after the meeting.

World’s richest woman is dead

L’Oreal heiress, Liliane Bettencourt, the world’s richest woman is dead. Bettencourt passed away in the early hours of Thursday after suffering from dementia at her old age. The cosmetics giant’s principal shareholder died at the age of 94. The sad news was shared by her daughter Francoise Bettencourt Meyersin. “Liliane Bettencourt died last night at home. “She would have been 95 on October 21. My mother left peacefully,” Mrs Bettencourt-Meyers said in a statement. According to Forbes magazine, Bettencourt was the 14th richest person in the world, with estimated net worth at $39.5 billion in March.

MMM: Woman secretly relocates from Lagos to Anambra after losing customers N4.5m to Ponzi Scheme

A woman simply identified as Ogochukwu has fled her residence after losing the sum of N4.5m belonging to her customers to defunct Ponzi scheme, MMM. Ogochukwu, who resides in Anuoluwapo Street in Ejigbo area of Lagos State is said have fled to Anambra Staten rendering hundreds of artisans and motorcycles operators in area helpless and in tears. The artisans were said to have contributed the said sum to Ogochukwu through daily savings scheme popularly called ‘Ajo’. Ogochukwu was said to have invested the ‘Ajo’ money in the defunct ponzi scheme hoping that she will make profit which did not happen as the scheme crashed. PM Express said the incident happened at Ejigbo where the woman resided with her family and also used as her office. She was said to have secretly moved her family members out of the house and was now nowhere to be found. Problem started when Ogochukwu’s customers approached her to collect their money in other to pay school fees. One of the victims said Ogochukwu asked them to come back the following day for their money only to discover that she had parked out in the night to an undisclosed place.

Civil servant killed by thunder strike

A civil servant, Salami Adekunle, aged 47, was on Thursday struck to death by lightning in Oro, Kwara. The deceased was a staff of the Registry Department of the College of Education (RDCE), Oro, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state. It was gathered that the deceased was leaving the institution’s examination office for the Registry Department at about 10 a.m. when the incident happened during a downpour. The institution’s Public Relation Officer, Mr Adesola Adewoye, who confirmed the incident, said that all efforts to rescue the deceased proved abortive. Adewoye said, “The staff and management swung into action immediately the deceased was struck, but all our efforts to resuscitate him proved abortive.’’ He however, described the deceased as an easy going, loyal and dedicated staff who will stop at nothing to impress his employer. “Our prayer is for God to give the family, friends and associate the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss”, the official added. Staff of the institution were seen in group discussing the development. Some traditional religion worshippers were said to have later performed some rites on the corpse of the deceased before it was taken away for burial.

Biafra: What FG should do to Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB members – CCCN

Following the proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, the Concerned Citizen Coalition of Nigeria (CCCN) has appealed to the Federal Government to immediately arrest leader of the group, Nnamdi Kanu and its members. CCCN said this would stop them from “terrorizing citizens.” The body also urged Federal Government to identify and deal with those who contributed to the funding of IPOB. CCCN harped on the need to dismantle IPOB’s network both locally and internationally. Commending the Federal High Court for declaring the pro-Biafra group as a terrorist organization, the body urged the Federal Government to go a step further by probing IPOB’s foreign connections. In a statement signed by its National President, Musa Omale, CCCN appealed to the media to avoid spreading propaganda by separatists groups. The statement reads, “May we use this opportunity to call on the Nigerian Police Force and the Department of State Services, DSS, to immediately go after all the known IPOB terrorists other than its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.” “There are several videos showing the faces of these terrorists particularly the ones documenting the launch of their militant arm, Biafra Secret Service. The terror group had boasted of having its cells outside of the south-east so attention should not be focused only on this area but the dragnet should be all over the place. “The Federal High Court in Abuja under Acting Chief Justice Abdu Kafarati on Wednesday September 20, 2017 ordered that the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, is a terror organization. The order also effectively designated any activity carried out under the name of the group as an act of terrorism. “The Concerned Citizen Coalition of Nigeria (CCCN) lauds the Court Judgement proscribing the IPOB, designation as a terror group. The judgement is a vindication of the concerns earlier expressed by the Nigerian Army that what troops are confronting in the south east is pure terrorism. The ruling should now put to rest any controversy over the nature of IPOB, whose criminal activities have no connection with agitation for a fairer share of the nation’s resources. “We commend the Nigerian Army for promptly identifying IPOB as the existential threat it was to the country and for not giving up even when aggressive propaganda was mounted to attempt ridiculing its assertion. “The Court order has vindicated the position of the Nigerian Army as the best friend of the Nigerian people and humanity who would stop at nothing until its mandate to defend the land from external and internally masterminded insurgencies against the county are all halted. “The selflessness, patriotism and devotion to the country are quite commendable and must be saluted at all times. This coalition urges the Army to remain committed to the ideals of democracy in its onerous duties of defending the territorial integrity of our country from both internal and external aggressors in the country. “We wish to commend those Nigerians that displayed uncommon patriotism to agitate that IPOB should be called what it is, a terror organization. Nigeria is bigger than any parochial interest and we must keep it so. It is important we are not taken down the Boko Haram route again when people initially maintained an air of indifference because they chose to view the terror group from political, religious and ethnic perspectives. “May we use this opportunity to call on the Nigerian Police Force and the Department of State Services, DSS, to immediately go after all the known IPOB terrorists other than its leader, Nnamdi Kanu. There are several videos showing the faces of these terrorists particularly the ones documenting the launch of their militant arm, Biafra Secret Service. The terror group had boasted of having its cells outside of the south-east so attention should not be focused only on this area but the dragnet should be all over the place. “Security agencies must also put the other separatist groups in the country under watch so that IPOB members do not migrate to such entities to continue terrorizing citizens. “We appeal to the government to educate Nigerians, especially media practitioners, on the implications of advancing terrorist propaganda. The Anti-Terror law has strict provisions for anyone that engages in this. While ignorance is no excuse in law it is nonetheless important to sensitize citizens about the provisions of this law especially as it affects communicating on behalf of terrorists. We therefore hope that stakeholders would pay heed and stop publishing contents from terrorists. “Beyond successfully designating IPOB as a terror group, we urge the Federal Government to immediately commence dismantling the group’s network and its infrastructure. Its finances must be blocked and anyone that contributes to its funding should be appropriately dealt with. IPOB’s foreign connections should be probed and strongly worded communication should be sent to any country found to be hosting the terror group’s cells. “On the domestic front, we urge that the government begin to attend to legitimate agitations that are presented through recognized representatives. Our counsel at this point is that we should not make the mistake of localizing the call for fair treatment to one ethnic group. All the ethnic groupings in the country each have one grievance or the other. They should all be looked into without favoring one group over the other so that no one would again use situations that are collectively deplored as excuses to start terror groups.”

Minister reveals issues Buhari discussed with Trump

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has revealed issues President Muhammadu Buhari discussed with the United States (US) President Donald Trump. Onyeama, who accompanied President Buhari to the lunch Trump had with select African leaders, said Buhari also used the forum to express appreciation to Trump for support in the fight against terrorism. He also disclosed that the weaponry the US promised to release to Nigeria, had been delivered. Onyeama particularly mentioned the Super Tucano aircraft which would assist Nigeria in overcoming the war against insecurity occasioned by the activities of the Boko Haram group. Also, the Minister said Buhari raised the issue of fight against corruption and recovery of ooted funds with Trump. Onyeama said: “In particular, he thanked President Trump for having called him when he was in London recuperating, and for his very thoughtful gesture and good wishes and commended him because at that time, he promised to release some weaponry that the US was reluctant to sell to Nigeria and for having kept his word because they have been delivered, approval for the sale of Super Tucano aircraft which is badly needed in our fight against terrorists. He thanked him for that. “He also thanked him for the US’ support with regards to fighting oil theft in the Gulf of Guinea and other security challenges there. He raised the issue with him, of fight against corruption and our efforts to have restituted to Nigeria, huge funds that have been stolen and in some cases, lodged in the American banking system. “So, he brought that to the attention of President Trump and I was hopeful that the US and he in particular, would do what he could to facilitate the process of recovery of those funds,” he said.

UK insists Nigerian government did not ask them to shut down Radio Biafra

The United Kingdom has denied receiving any request from the Nigerian government to shut down Radio Biafra. On Wednesday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, told State House correspondents that despite all the damage done by the Nnamdi Kanu-owned station, the British government was allowing it to continue to operate. “Who does not know that the IPOB internal radio is located in London? We know the diplomatic moves we have been taking and approaching the UK, all the damages it (Radio Biafra) has done, but they don’t see it that way, for them (the British government), it is about freedom of expression,” Mohammed said. However, the British High Commission, in a statement by its Press & Public Affairs Officer, Joe Abuku, said: “The UK is not aware of any representation from the Nigerian government about Radio Biafra. “Were we to receive any such request, we would of course consider it carefully on the basis of the available evidence, recognising that freedom of speech and expression carries responsibilities.”

Falana reveals how National Assembly refused to pass special corruption court bill

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has claimed that the National Assembly refused to pass a bill for the creation of special courts to try corruption cases sent by the executive. In a statement released on Thursday, Falana said their refusal to pass the bill caused corruption cases to be delayed in courts which were already congested with other cases. “As part of anti-corruption policy of the Mohammadu Buhari administration an executive bill for the establishment of a special court clothed with exclusive jurisdiction to try corruption cases was submitted to the national assembly. Although it was submitted over a year ago the federal legislators have not deemed it fit to pass the crucial bill into law for reasons best known to them. Hence corruption cases have been subjected to inordinate delays in our courts which are congested with many other cases,” he said. Falana described the intervention of Justice Walter Onnoghen, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, as decisive. “However, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the Honourable Justice Walter Onnoghen has intervened in a decisive manner by issuing a directive to all heads of courts in Nigeria to create special courts for the exclusive trial of corruption cases. “The chief justice deserves commendation for the radical initiative. No doubt, the timely intervention of the chief justice will go a long way to speed up the trial of corruption cases in all our courts. “To make a success of the directive the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, the chief judges of the states and the federal capital territory should be directed by the chief justice of Nigeria to issue practice directions to accelerate the determination of corruption cases. “In addition, the supreme court (criminal appeals) practice directions 2013; court of appeal (criminal appeals) practice directions 2013 and court of appeal (fast track) practice directions 2014 as well as the federal high court practice directions 2013 issued by the heads of the respective courts should be put to use as they are designed to give priority to the trial and appeals arising from cases of corruption, money laundering, terrorism, rape and kidnapping and human trafficking. “To obviate undue delay in the determination of corruption cases the practice directions have made special provision for the service of processes on parties by electronic mail addresses, facsimile number and GSM Telephone number or any other available mode of communication,” he added.

Guidelines/Instructions For OAU 2017/2018 Post-UTME Aptitude Test Screening Exercise

The is to inform all candidates participating in the Post-UTME Aptitude Test of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife that the management has released Guidelines guiding the screening exercise for the 2017/2018 academic session. The Guidelines are outlined below *The examinations will have multiple sessions per day. *Each examination session will have a stipulated and advertised start and stop time. *Each candidate will be placed in a particular session on a particular day. *Candidates should arrive at the examination venue at least TWO (2) HOURS before the start time of the examination. *Candidates will be physically and digitally screened before being allowed to write the examination. *Once a candidate has been screened He /She must remain within the specified HOLDING AREA awaiting entry into the examination hall. *Candidates will be required to observe approved CBT examination restroom guidelines. *Candidates are advised to read and understand all instructions displayed by the Computer System for each subject on which they will be examined. *Candidates will only be allowed to take  writing pen into the examination hall. *The following items are prohibited in the examination hall:mobile-phones, calculators, document and writing materials should not be taken into the examination venue. *Candidates must bring along to the examination venues the following for submission, before they will be allowed to write the examination: o Examination Slip printout o Examination Guidelines printout. *Any examination malpractice/ misconduct will be appropriately dealt with. *All enquiries while the examination is in progress must be directed ONLY to the examination INVIGILATOR. *All candidates must confirm that their attendance is duly acknowledged during the conduct of the examination. *Any candidate that becomes ill during the examination must inform the Invigilator immediately. *All candidate must ensure that all questions are properly submitted on the CBT before exiting the examination hall. *No candidate will be allowed to write an examination if She/He arrives at a time later than 20 minutes after the postponement commencement of the examination. *Candidates are required to leave the examination venue QUIETLY on completion of their allotted questions. *The UNIVERSITY will not be responsible for the safety of personal effects brought to the examination premises. *All candidates are required to conduct themselves in a manner that does not result in disturbance of public peace throughout the period of the examination and within the designated premises.
