The management of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has donated a 15 seater bus to the Students Union for the efficient running of its activities within and outside the campus. While commissioning the bus, the Vice Chancellor Professor Adebiyi Daramola commended the out gone administration of the union led by Mr Olusegun Oladele for their resilience, tenacity and maturity in handling the affairs of the union during their tenure. The Vice Chancellor said their leadership style had great impact on the comportment of the student body, who despite the lingering crisis in the school conducted themselves with the utmost decorum. Daramola admonished the incoming Union officials to emulate the previous administration by engaging responsible unionism in order to properly steer the affairs of the union. The Vice chancellor while urging Nigerians to use indigenous products disclosed that the bus was made in Nigeria by Innoson Group of Companies.
On his part, the Dean of Students Affairs, Professor Kayode Alese lauded the Vice chancellor for making the welfare of the students top priority. According to him, Daramola has left indelible marks in the lives of the students and his administration will not be forgotten for its magnanimity to them. Alese urged them to make judicious use of the bus and handle it with care.
The Student’s Union President Mr Adeyinka Olasehinde assured the university management of his unalloyed support and promised to give exemplary leadership to the students.

Federal Polytechnic, Nekede 16 undergraduates docked for cultism

Enwerem stated that the new commissioner of police in the state, Chris Ezike, is committed to reducing cultism and criminal activities.

News reports have revealed that 16 undergraduates of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, Imo state, have been charged to court by the police over their alleged involvement in cult related activities.

The Imo state police command charged the suspects to court on Friday, April 21, 2017.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Andrew Enwerem, via a statement released in Owerri, on Saturday, April 22, 2017, said that the suspects were apprehended on April 14, 2017, in a bush in the Ihiagwa community of the Owerri West Local Government Area.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police also alleged that the suspects were members of a cult group known as Neo black movement of Africa confraternity.
The statement reads in part, “in a renewed onslaught against the menace of cultism in Imo State, operatives of the state police command on April 14,2017, arrested over 16 suspected cultists in a bush in Ihiagwa in the Owerri West LGA. They are members of the Neo black movement of Africa confraternity. Suspects have been charged to court, accordingly.”
Enwerem also claimed that three live cartridges and expended SMG ammunition were recovered from the undergraduates following their arrest.
He listed the names of the suspects as, Oluwoke Herto , 24, leader Of the Neo black movement Of Africa Onyegbule Chukwunenye, 24, Chibueze Okpara, 17, Uzoma Kingsley 25, Chisom Nwosu, 23, Oscar Ojinaka OSCAR, 25, Ebuka Ejekeme,Uchenna Ehum, Christian Ejekeme.
Others are Lucky Anyanwu, Uche Okoro Chinecherem Okeke, Michael Igbokwe, Chima Agugua, Victor Egbu and Nelson.

FUTO Students to resume after school closure, but on one condition

They have to pay a levy of N12,500 before they can set foot in school.

Two months after the Federal University of Technology Owerri was closed by the school authorities, the gates are open again for activities.

In case you missed it, students of FUTO have had to sit idle at home for the past two months because the school authorities shut down all activities in the school.
Why? Student unrest. On February 17, 2017, students protested alleged increments in school fees, course registrations, Internet and hostel fees, and generally everything the school management was charging them for.
The protest seemed to be going on peacefully, until some students allegedly took to destroying school buildings, like the Senate building, the ICT centre, and even the Diamond Bank branch in the school premises.
And it was at that point the authorities knew they had had enough. So even though 1st semester exams of the 2016/2017 session was ongoing, they ordered an immediate and indefinite closure of the school.
But there’s one condition to re-enter the school.
Every undergraduate must pay a levy of N12,500 for damages and a notarised undertaking to be of good behaviour.
We know this because the Registrar of the University, John Nnabuihe, said so in a statement announcing the reopening of the school.
Also, exams will continue exactly three weeks from the date of resumption. This statement did not make mention whether the school will look into the grievances of the students.

In Jigawa State University gets new Pro-Chancellor

There seems to be a massive Exodus from Kano’s top University.

The Governor of Jigawa State, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, has appointed Prof. Sa’idu Babura as the new Pro-Chancellor of the Sule Lamido University.

This also means he’s Chairman of the Governor Council of the University.
We know this because this information was shared in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Adamu Abdulkadir, on Monday in the state capital, Dutse.
Prof. Babura is a Professor of Oral Literature with special interest on Northern Nigerian Literature and former lecturer in the Department of English and French Languages, Bayero University, Kano. Bayero University is one of the largest universities in Northern Nigeria.
According to the statement, also appointed is Dr Muhammad Isah the Chairman, Governing Council of the Binyaminu Usman Polytechnic, Hadejia. Dr Isah was the Deputy Dean, Faculty of Law, Bayero University, Kano, until the appointment.
Also, Alhaji Muhammad Usman the Chairman, Governing Council of the College of Legal and Islamic Studies, Ringim.
Prof. Kabiru Isyaku was appointed a Member of the Governing Council of the Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa.
Isyaku, a Professor of Education, was formerly of the Department of Education, Bayero University, Kano.
The statement said that all the appointments took immediate effect.
Looks like an exodus.
The Jigawa State government clearly went shopping in the Bayero University Kano. Bayero University has some of the best faculties in Northern Nigeria.
It is also one of the most popular universities in the country. At the last JAMB, over 60,000 students applied to get into Bayero University Kano.
This could just be as a result of it being a University at the North’s commercial centre. It could also be because the lineup there is quite strong.
Hopefully, this is going to be a win for Sule Lamido University, Jigawa.
The Governor also deserves some credit.
Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar is making a major push in Jigawa State as regards education. Besides the massive efforts made with disease prevention, he’s making a heavy push into education. His administration is willing to pay girls 19,000 to attend school!
Hopefully, the methods are sustainable and start to yield results.

Kogi State University SUG Organises Massive Protest On April 26th

Great Nigerian students!
I wish to first of all thank all students and stakeholders of Kogi state University for the continuous support to the Students’ Union Government, amidst all the betrayal. The greatest sin against humanity is to thwart the effort of the majority. I really sympathise with you all, and I commend your patience.
Over the past few weeks, a lot has happened. A lot of propaganda has been on social media, a lot of deceit, betrayal, and a lot of lies from our student union leaders. Our leaders have obviously failed.
But as acting SUG president, I am promising every student that this is a new dawn.
We are now going to build the Students’ Union Government where your dues count, where your rights are protected and where your common welfare is guaranteed.
Never again will the right and interest of any student of Kogi state university be sold out.
For this short period, we shall from now advocate for proper conditions and treatment from our classrooms to the hostels. We shall advocate for immediate intervention with regards to water and power supply in our school.
From now on, every single naira of the Students’ Union Government shall be accounted for.
We have stayed home for too long.
The plight of the students suffering at home for the past three months is my greatest worry.
The ongoing strike is our greatest terror now, and making sure we get back to class as soon possible is our biggest priority right now. This, we shall fight for with all sincerity and diplomacy.
We are already partnering all institutions in the state to have the biggest peaceful demonstration/protest ever. This mega demonstration is slated for Wednesday, 26th April, 2017 at Lokoja, as agreed at the Joint Campus Congress held on 20th April, 2017.
Please debunk any news stating that there will be a protest on the 24th of April. That is another big deceit awaiting.
This is our right and we are not going back on our decision.
I urge every student of KSU to come out and support this peaceful protest.
Once again, I thank all our students for their patience, support and cooperation.
No more Facebook governance.
No more permutation governance.
No more April fooling.
This is the dawn of a new era.

29 Students Of Ajayi Crowther University Expelled, 9 Others Suspended Immediately

In a memo by Mrs Adenike T. Fatogun, titled: “Decision of the University’s Management on Students with disciplinary cases”, the management of the Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), has expelled 29 students from the institution, following their acts of insubordination.

The school also suspended 9 students, while 3 got letters of warning, making it clear the school’s “Management will not entertain personal appeals from parents and sponsors in regard to these decisions.”

According to Daily Post, some male students assaulted ACU Vice Chancellor, Professor Dapo Folorunsho Asaju, two weeks ago, and in anger, he ordered that the school be shut and ordered immediate probe.

It was gathered that trouble had started when some male students of ‘Ibadan Hostel’ and ‘JA (Joseph Adetiloye) Hostel’ allegedly fought over a female student.

The VC was said to have directed internal security personnel to put the situation under control before it escalated.

A source in the school said; “When security staff got there, the guys rather than stop the commotion continued. Some students then poured water on the security personnel.
“Word got to the VC who decided to personally intervene. On his arrival, the students got violent and said he should leave.
“As the situation got tensed, some yet-to-be-identified poured water and thrash on him. Prof Asaju was so angry that he cursed them and vowed to take action”.

On Friday, April 21, some of those expelled appeared before the Students Disciplinary Committee (SDC) over the incident. Others had pending cases which were also investigated.

Jamb To Deploy New Exam Questions For Each Batch Of Candidates

The Joint Admission and Matriculation board (JAMB) has disclosed that it has put a new innovation in place that will enable it deploy enough questions for the JAMB exam for all the candidates writing on a particular day.

This was disclosed by JAMB’s Head of Information, JAMB, Dr Fabian.

He explained that in previous years the board can only deploy questions once in a day.

So even if there are three batches of candidates (morning, afternoon and evening) writing the examination on the same day, they have to answer the same questions. But this is no longer the case.

According to him, if we have three sessions or batches, we will deploy three times; this is a new innovation to ensure that even the person at the centre does not compromise the sanctity of the examination.

He equally mentioned that so far, about 1.3 million candidates have registered for the examination billed to hold between May 13 and 20.

The Academic Staff Union Of Universities Under Fire Over Calls For Scrapping Of JAMB

The Joint Action Coalition of Civil Society Organization for Transparency in Governance has condemned the recent attack on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Accusing the union of being allergic to reforms and innovations being introduced by the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede.

The coalition has also endorsed the on-going reforms and innovations introduced by the to ease of admission into the nation’s tertiary institutions, while also passing a vote of confidence on the leadership of the Board led by its Registrar, Professor Oloyede.

The groups said the innovations will deal with corruption in the educational sector and eradicate the problem of admission racketeering. Addressing a press conference on yesterday in Abuja, Convener of the coalition, Mr. Sabo Odeh ‎said the position by ASUU is wrong.

According to him, the latest trick is through the instrumentality of calling for the scrapping of the JAMB. He said the reforms introduced by JAMB into admission process in Nigeria appears to have taken many members of ASUU engaged in admission racketeering out of business.

He said: “If ASUU is allowed to dictate how JAMB does it work, it is a matter of time before the lecturers set their sight on WAEC, Secondary and even primary schools.

“The clamour by ASUU that each university should be allowed to handle its own admission processes is an open call to empower these admission syndicates operated by no other persons but ASUU members.

Heeding ASUU’s ill-conceived call would send us back to the problems that JAMB was set up to solve.

“In the years that preceded JAMB, it was common to see some candidates secure admission into as many as five universities which implies that four slots would we wasted as the student can only resume in one school while several other candidates are made to wait another year at home because these slots have been wasted.”

Odeh blamed ASSU for the decay in the education sector that the country is today grappling to remedy, saying the union has lost its moral compass and does not have the capacity to challenge the reforms being introduced by JAMB.

He accused the union of frustrating interventions that would re-establish Nigerian universities as centres of excellence where youths can pass through and favourably compete with their contemporaries from any other top flight institutions on earth.

He said: “ASUU, as it did in the 90s, is giving the impression that it is genuinely interested in the well being of would be undergraduates.

We took time to study the situation with a view to ascertaining if ASUU’s intervention in the way JAMB conducts its major or mock examination is altruistic as they make it appear.

“Sadly, all that can be surmised from ASUU’s interference in this process is that they have resumed their efforts to hijack the education sector for their own purposes.

Court Seizes Senator’s House Over Alleged N1.5bn Contract Scam

The Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday ordered the temporary forfeiture of a 12-storeyed building belonging to the senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Peter Nwaoboshi, over an alleged contract scam of N1.5bn.

The said building which the court ordered Nwaoboshi, a Peoples Democratic Party member, to forfeit to the Federal Government is located at 27, Marine Road, Apapa.

Justice Abdulaziz Anka made the forfeiture order after entertaining an ex parte application brought before him on Monday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Joined with Nwaoboshi in the application were his two companies – Golden Touch Construction Project Limited, and Bilderberg Enterprises Limited.

The EFCC told the judge that Nwaoboshi, through his company, Bilderberg Enterprises Limited, got a N1.580bn contract to supply some construction equipment to the Delta State Direct Labour Agency sometime in 2010.

The anti – graft agency, however, claimed that Nwaoboshi’ s company supplied second -hand equipment to the agency while he actually collected money to supply new equipment, thereby short- changing the agency.

The EFCC claimed that Nwaoboshi later used the proceeds of the alleged scam to bid for and purchase the 12-storeyed building, formerly known as Guinea House, for N 805m in the name of his company, Golden Touch Construction Project Limited.

Arguing the ex parte application on Monday, the EFCC’ s lawyer, George Chia -Yakua, said it was in the interest of justice to order the temporary forfeiture of the building pending the outcome of investigation and criminal trial of Nwaoboshi and his companies.

He said the forfeiture order being sought was compliant with Section 44( 2) ( k) of the constitution and sections 28 and 29 of the EFCC ( establishment ) Act 2004.

After listening to the lawyer , the judge ordered the temporary forfeiture of Nwaoboshi’ s building.

Davido’s 62-Year-Old Uncle, Senator Adeleke Died Of Drug Overdose

Nigeria as been in sad mood ever since we lost our dear Senator Adeleke.

Uncle of popular hip-hop artiste, Davido and first civilian governor of Osun State, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, who died in the early hours of Sunday, April 23, 2017, at a private hospital in Osogbo was killed by an overdose of painkillers administered to him by an unqualified medical technician.

According to Sharareporters, the Senator received the medication following complaints of serious pain in his legs at the beginning of day-long political rally and meetings.
